In case it has been posted before I do apologize, but here is a quick $7-10 quick disconnect setup for your rig...

Going to Home Depot after work to get the parts.

Are these loud and clanky? Strong enough? I may try and weld that washer onto the bolt so as to beef it up and keep it from doing what it did to the guy in the link.

2 of the guys I work with use this setup on their wranglers and have not complained of any clanging or noises. I'll find out tonight though and do a weekend test of it...

I just got back from Home Depot and picked up all the parts needed for this, I have to go to my wife's friend's wedding now until tonight but I am going to try them out when I get home. I even went ahead and bought 1/2" clevis pins as well as the 7/16 to see how tight they were, and I figured I could just tap them in and out when I need to with one of the tools I keep in my jeep. I figured the tighter the pins was the better.

I am curious to hear how this works. Let us all know once it is trail-tested. :D

So I just did a quick test of the discos and they work fine. All I did was drive around the block going up and down the curbs. There is a pretty noticeable clank with them but I think you could add another washer in and that might fix it. I will work on it tomorrow. I tried the 1/2 an the 7/16 and the 1/2 won't fit into the hole so those are useless.

I did this mod on my TJ. Worked great, but keep an eye on them, after about 6 months the constant force on them had really worn the pin out. Had to replace them a couple of times while I had the Jeep. Not a big deal and sue is cheaper than buying discos.

Well, I welded the washer to the pin and put two washers (three total per side) on the head side and they still make some clunking and clanking noises. Not sure if I will keep them in or not. They do work but I hate the noise. Other than the growl of my off road muffler and the hum of my tires an wind, my kj makes no noises, so this new clanking is kind of hard to take. I'll give it a week an see how I feel about them.

would it be easy enough to have the stock setup for everyday driving and switch out for off road trips? Just a thought

I hate any clunking/ clanking sounds etc when I am driving through the mall parking lot

I might do something like you suggest Tom and keep the stock setup for most of the time, but if I know I am going to run a trail or something I could swap them out. I am going to try a thicker cotter pin to see if that takes out some of the slack as well. Other than that, there is no more room for other washers to squeeze in. I barely fit the three on mine. :?

What if you put plastic washer and the metal ones, like [MMP---PM] may be the plastics ones will not last long but you can change it every time the clanking starts again. Or use silicone to glue all washers together. I think the washer are the source of the noise.

The rubber bushing inside the sway bar joints has a metal piece that the quick disco pin runs through. That is where the majority of the noise comes from. That metal inside clanks on the pin when the kj hits a bump. It isn't the washers I put on so much as that metal that cannot be taken out of the sway bar links.

Well, I went to home depot and traded in the cheesy cotter pin for a pin that is thicker by about 5 times and is the kind that has the straight pin attached to a round piece of metal that acts like a spring that closes onto the straight part. I don't know the exact name obviously but it is way beefier. The new pin didn't fin into the clevis pin so I bored it out barely and it fits perfect. So the quick disco system is way tighter. I was hoping this would solve the issue, so I drove around and it STILL makes a horrible clanking sound on every bump, even the little ones. This is as tight as I could possibly get the dicos to be without running a new system. Overall I am $13 in to it so not too bad really. I guess I am going to toss the stock one back on and keep this for when I know I will be running some trails where I will want to run no sway bar. Let me know if there are any other people running this and how they did their setup and how it performs. I will be trying to think of a way to get it to work right.

With the KJ being IFS and the KJ's unibody being so rigid and the fact that the front swaybar is a vital part of the front suspension you will get noise no matter what you do,you need those upper/lower endlink points very tight to prevent noise.

I still don't think it's worth running disco's on our KJ's. Just can't see the minimal gain as being worth it.

I put it back to stock. I'll keep them and maybe slap em on before a planned trail run. Here are a few things I noticed about the discos when they were on. They are loud (scary loud), they don't work exactly the same way the stock connections does (the jeep sways ever so slightly more), the jeep rolled forward on the suspension when coming to a full stop, the loud noise was heard (especially) going over ANY bump and when coming to a stop, they are in no way as strong as the stock setup, and it really hurts when you are grinding a weld down and you grind through your glove and into your thumb. I got distracted for one sec and WHOOPS, nice deep gash on the back of my thumb below the nail. Anyway, I can see how they help a little off road when I had them off and was testing articulation, but they are really annoying on road and would take way too much getting used to to keep on all the time. My buddy just got new RE quick discos for his XJ and they are silent he says. Maybe I'll look at his and see how they work and see if there are any design ideas I can steal.
