I have a 05 KJ and I am having problems putting gas in it.... Was there a small round spring loaded cap at the top of the filler neck? If so... is it possible that it came off and is sitting an a "trap" and prohibiting the free flow of incoming gas to the tank?

I thought the same thing last year. I thought someone had broken off the cap trying to sipon gas out of my tank. Turns out there never was a cap, which was weird because the other two vehicles I have owned both had caps.

I'm not sure what could be causing you sluggish fillups.

What is the "trouble"? Does the flow stop or does the nozzle not go in?

If I go to pump 15 at my usual station I can't pump unless I pull the nozzle almost all the way out why squeezing or the auto shutoff triggers. It seems like that one pump nozzle has an odd bend in it...all the others work fine.

If I go to the station that claims to have "the fastest pumps legally allowed" the flow causes the auto shut off to kick in sometimes if the handle is squeezed to max flow...I try not to go there just because I don't trust the max flow but sometimes it can't be avoided.

I believe my '03 has that "spring loaded flap" you mentioned, IIRC. You'd think after the hundreds if not thousands of fill-ups I've done for the last 5+ years I would know for sure. I'm 99% sure I have it though. I would go down and look right now, except my wife took the Lib to her hair appt.

yes you do. i have a 2003 sport and i noticed that spring loaded thingy yesterday when i was getting gas. not even sure what the purpose is, figured it was some sort of sensor for telling me whether or not my gas cap is on.
