I will be needing a new muffler for my 02 kj in the next few months, and have been drooling over the flowmaster 50 series. I think the best fit would be the 50 suv, but I am curious, if I decided to get something like the 50 big block, or even the 70 big block, would that work? I am looking for a very aggressive sound, something that will make me stand out from the grocery kj next to me. Would a very big muffler like the 70 big block cause any problems? Also, since I am dealing in the exhaust area, I am looking for a new air filter, something that allows MUCH more air flow, whats a good option (keep in mind, I'm not looking for a whole new intake kit, money is a factor)... So?

Tha Amsoil Ea201 drop in air filter will flow great but most importantly it wil FILTER the air. Not sure if you can buy it up there but I Can make arrangements to get one to you. PM if interested.

The 50 series should sound just fine. I have one on my 04 and Did have one on my 03. Always liked the basic sound of them but notice a droning on the 04 at crusing speeds. Pretty sure a 40 series wil be louder than the 50 though.

I gotta give a plug for my Flowmaster Super 44 Off Road series muffler. It is awesome. It has a nice deep sound to it and best off all it acts as a skid and muffler in one. It is very noticeable over the stock muffler. I get tons of looks when I drive by people and they hear the kj first and then a double take when they realize it is a kj.

Wow, that is a killer looking muffler! I'll check that one out. Do you think that is a louder muffer than the 50?

They say it is the loudest one they offer, the 44 series that is, but I have never compared it to a 50. It is nice and loud but not so loud that your neighbors will try and set your kj on fire while you are sleeping to get rid of the "noisy neighbor".

LOL set your KJ on fire. I wondered if you just took a stock muffler and welded the plate to it. I just have a borla catback system. I like it but it is not loud by any means.

As for a air filter, I have a used K&N with the cleaning supplies. I had it in mine for about...2 years maybe 3. I liked it but noticed that with all the sand here in the valley a fair amount was getting past the filter so I swapped it out. If you want it let me know, I will sell it to ya for a cheap price with the cleaning supplies.

Sweet, well that is enough for me. This isn't a need to do asap fix, so I will wait a bit, but since I should get some serious new sound coming from my liberty, I will do this first chance I get. I figure that since I definitely can't lift it this summer, I may as well do what little I can :) I'm hoping a new muffler and new tires at the very least.

$20 Thrush Turbo muffler from Advance Auto Parts, all said and done the whole set-up was less then $30,sounds just like a Flowmaster 40 or super 44 muffler at a 1/5 of the price.

Yah, but its not that sweet diamond plate look lmao! Come on, that is a killer look! I suppose that wouldn't look the best once I get it undercoated in the fall :)

How sturdy is that 44? I was told that the diamond plate gives it some flex, so if you hit a rock on it, you will not damage the surface, but you will damage the inner workings of it because of the flex... You ever notice this?

when it comes down to it you can tear any muffler off no matter how well made it is or even dent it, so it's all up to what you want to pay and what you like the looks of. Me I have a Flow Master knockoff and half the price even installed as what Summit wanted for just the muffler, it has some scrapes and knicks taken out of it but still going

Ok....so I really really like the looks of the diamondplate muffler..........but I think the el-cheepo Thrush would be what I would use cause when it gets bashed/beat you can replace it and still be $$ ahead by far....

Besides, who would know what you got under there. It's not like everyone drools and crawls under your jeep everytime you park it.......or is it?

Isn't the 44 off road also a amazing sounding muffler (thats what I'm told)? Aside from the cool look to it, the sound is the important part here. Like you say, how many people will get under the jeep just to check out your muffler ;) If you have a really big lift, than I suppose you could notice it, but then again I have rock rails so its not going to be seen at all.

I sure didn't buy the muffler because of the looks. Once you get some mud and dirt on there it won't be so pretty anyway. I got it first and foremost because it will outlast 10 of the cheap mufflers. This thing is super beefy and for what a good skid costs plus what a good muffler goes for I feel I come out ahead enough to warrant this buy. The sound was also secondary to me. I bought it because it is tough and will take a beating. Many of the cheaper mufflers out will sound just as good, won't necessarily get destroyed but will dent and deform while this one will take way WAY more abuse than any of those. This does sound killer too though which was an added bonus. Even if it had sounded just like the stock I would have bought it though for the tough factor. Here is it used and abused. You can see it back on the left there. I bottomed out on it in a rut once so far and no issues but it sure isn't pretty anymore. This is the best pic i have of it after I have beat it up.

Yes, the Eaa201 is available in Canada. I have one on my KJ and it is far better than the K&N that it replaced. With both the stock and K&N air filters the engine used to hesitate, or stumble (?), going up steep hills and sometimes under hard acceleration on warmer days. The K&N was not as bad as the stock filter, but with the Eaa201 the hesitation has gone away. The engine feels like it is pulling harder going up the same hills.

Oh yes, the Eaa201 is also cheaper than the K&N in Canada. :D

Glad to hear it can stand up for its worth. I love the red skids btw, did you do them yourself or they come that way??? Wouldn't that chip off the first trail ride?

My $20 muffler is looking better than your Flowmaster,I've had mine on for over a year now, went through a winter and many trail runs and is still looking good.

Right after I put it on....

Will it rust? Yes it will but being aluminized steel it will take a long time, heck even stainless steel will rust.I replaced my high dollar Borla system with the Thrush muffler due to crushing the Borla muffler on the trail, now with the Thrush it just kinda slides over stuff,it has taken a few good hits but no damage, yet.

Don't discount the Magnaflow SS muffler...straight through shot and sound better than the FM in my opinion. better construction too. $78 at Summit Racing. The equivalent SS Flowmaster is twice as much. the $78 Flowmaster (same price range as the Magnaflow) is NOT ss construction and has lots of baffles and chambers to produce a sound. not a straight through muffler.

tjkj....do you just use a hanger at the back of that?? is there a spot to put a hanger in the undercarriage there or did you fab a spot??
