Front Mopar Skid Plate

Does anybody know if a 02 - 05 mopar front skid plate will match a 06 KJ? What I mean is do they all match up or are the 06 - 07 skid plates different??

I put an 05+ front plate on an 03. All of the bolts lined up except one. Had to drill it out and put a bolt through it. It was one of the back bolts, so it isn't as big of an issue probably. The front ones lined up fine.

I don't know if the reverse is true and the older ones will fit the newer Libby's, due to shape, etc. But, at least you know how the bolt holes will line up now. My thoughts are that it will fit though.

I had called Jeep Dealership and could not get the answer I was looking for. I was also told that Chrysler dicontinued Liberty skid plates :shock:

I bet there is a bunch of them in junkyards. My 2005 CRD had a skid on it, but it was a half thickness model, so I bought the thicker one. Every Lib on the lot where I bought mine had front skids, how'd you get one without?

My CRD has a smashed up original one. Which one is the heavier version?

if you check the places like jparts - the plates are still available - but they've been superceeded - Jeep discontinued the older thick ones and the new 05 and up thin plates are the standard. (you may have to drill a mounting point or two)

02 to 04 should be thicker - mine's bent too - I tried to order an 02 and they were discontinued.

The '02 and '03 versions are the thicker version,'04+ have thinner front skids.

If you want a nearly indestructible front skid and a whole bunch more front clearence start looking at the SkidRow front skid(RL will be working on some skids in the near future as well).I have a slightly used one forsale as well.

Today I went to the junk yard and bought the front skid off a 02'. Looks and feels durable, real thick. Only paid $25.00 and installed it in 10 min. Now I am just looking for a Renny to get some good stuff!!

not to hijack this thread but what are the 2 welded in nuts for on the front edge of the front skid plate? Mines an 05, do the older ones also have these nuts?

Yes you do,how do you think the front of the skid is bolted to the cradle.

I believe all KJ's,'02-'07,have the nuts welded in the cradle for the front skid.The nutzerts for the tranny and t-cased skid have to be added(unless you got the offroad package) and offcourse the nuts are welded in the rear for the gas tank skid/hitch in all years.

I just installed the front 3 skids and the transfer uses 4 nutzerts, the tranny uses 2 with 2 more nuts welded into the frame. these 2 are shared with the front skid and the front 2 for the front skid are also welded into the frame. the bolts for the front skid go up through the skid into the welded into the frame nuts but there are also 2 more nut weled into the leading edge of the skid plate itself, like there is something else that could bolt to the skid plate. I didn't get a chance for a pic today but will try and get one tomorrow.

I just got one from my Jeep dealer about $72 ,had a 10% off card that I got in the mail. They ordered it and got it the next day. It also has the 2 weld nuts on the leading edge. some one just used these to extend a plate up to keep mud and snow from packing in between skid and dif.

Anyone else have suggestions, I will be more than happy to take them before I make my KJ look like swiss cheese :lol:

easy to drill and holds better anyways, no pounding to fit just drill and bolt on simple and FUN

here is a pic of my new Mopar front skid on my 05. notice the welded on nuts in the corners? there must be another plate or something that Mopar thinks we need to buy from them to bolt there! :lol:
