Those who want the masses to go 55 are the Elitists who fly around in private jets and get $500 hair cuts and think we are all stupid and dumb. Once a friend of mine saw one of these Elitists who believed in the 55 MPH speed limit driving his car with the special U.S. Senate license plates driving on one of the back roads of Illinois and was tempted to help this Elitist have an up close and intimate relationship with a gully along side the road. Then my friend figured out the real reason this U.S. Senator supported the 55 MPH speed limit, the Senator could not drive him self any faster and stay on the road. My friend just passed him.
I am so glad the airline pilots could not let him in the cockpit or air travel would have been banned :!: :!:
We all know about the famous Senator from MA who can't drive either, but man can he swim
I want to see any politician (of any party) who supports stupid laws like the 55MPH speed limit dragged out of office in hand cuffs and convicted of something

Try driving cross country at 55 and will seem to take forever. Another thing to pizz off the truckers.

Well there is some truth to that. But, it wouldn't bother me. I drive about 58-60 everywhere... all the time..... 2 lane, 4 lane, 6 lane, whatever.

I am against any mandatory speed limit restrictions, but I will run slower with my semi only because I save $12K a year in fuel. That's right. The industry average is around 5.5 mpg and I typically average around 7 mpg. Now you stretch that out over an average of 140K miles a year and you see the savings. I can take almost two months off from work and make the same net income in a year that the "billy bob bigriggers" do in the same time frame.

That's ok. I like the freedom of choice that America offers. I can choose to take the savings and have a nice rural property, a CRD Liberty that I can fool with, etc. as opposed to blowing the cash just to live out some fantasy about being a Nascar driver.

Oh... and for those who think I will get "run over" out there for driving that slow. Even regarding the other trucks, they have 60 foot of truck to get to me.... they have only 6 foot of hood to protect them. So.... ARB bumbers, cow catcher bumpers, etc will not mean a thing. Bring it on if you feel the urge to merge.

Oh and if you think I am a mother *&^%$# for operating this way. At least remember me on Mother's day and send a card.

Well COWPIE, saving $12,000 a year is a substantial amount. Sounds to me that you are making good choices.

I'm 26 and I drive as slow as I can afford to. That means without being an idiot to other motorists, while I value a reputation of being a serious and good driver and still trying to save a pretty penny on fuel.

There are two kinds of truckers... those that are just wanting to massage their egos and those that run a business. If you don't want to loose the truck, wife, and be homeless, you better run it like a business and be a bean counting fool.

One added plus is that by running at 58-60 everywhere, it is indeed an extremely rare occasion that I get caught by surprise when the traffic starts acting psycho. Saves a lot of wear on brakes, tires, and drive train as an added plus. And I haven't had to pay the Gestapo any fines. A quarter of a century driving Class 8 trucks from the Rio Grande to above the Arctic Circle with no accidents or moving violations makes one a very marketable quantitiy and keeps the insurance rates at rock bottom.

And with the "lawsuit crazy" society we have today, I can't afford to be doing "billy bob bigrigger" antics out on the road. I don't want the excitement that goes along with killing a van full of kids. They don't have much of a chance against 40 tons of truck and freight. I am not worried about the idiot on a rice rocket doing 100 mph that slams into the rear of the truck. If he can't see a 13' 6" tall and 104" wide trailer that is in front of him, then I have no compassion and view it as another story to be written up in the Darwin Award series of books. I might feel the bump when he hits. Probably not, since the roads are in terrible condition in a lot of places. But that is why I have a CB as well. Another driver will let me know that I have an "unauthorized" rider on my ICC bumper.
