I'm getting a new muffler soon, and am wondering if it is worth the cost to get it welded, or can I just clamp it?

I think it is well worth a pretty small chunk of change to have it welded. No leaks...

I just had a flowmaster 40 put on this weekend. Cost me $150 installed (welded)

Do it right, weld it.

I thought yours was clamped on. Mine is a clamped Borla Cat Back and I love it. Installed it myself.

Nope, welded at a shop. The clamps work but they aren't as strong as a weld. I figured since I went with the heavy duty off road model, I'd keep it as strong as I could and have them weld it on. See below:

Do you offroad much? If not, clamp it and spend the money extra on gas. Offroad, even if the muffler is welded, the right rock in the right spot could pry it off and probably rip out a lot of the exhaust with it. I've only had my muffler take vertical 'hits', not scrapes along the whole length or anything that pushed on it horizontally.
That being said, find someone who has a welder...you probably won't have to look far and even if you do the few bucks you throw them will be less than what a shop would charge.

If the other pipes are pretty rusty I would say clamp it since it'll be a challenge to get a good weld without burn through and porosity. If the pipes are fairly rust free, then weld it.

I clamped mine and planned on having it welded later but that never happened. I would still like to but it probably wont happen. :?
