anyone know how to or know someone who could gimme some ideas on how i could manufacture a bike rack that would mount on the inside of my jeep. as opposed to having to mount it on my roof, cause im short and i have a lift on her and i know it would be a pain in the arse to have to try and lift my mtn. bike up there!

so any ideas or if anyone knows of someone who could help me out would be greatly appreciated!!

Thule makes a really nice spare tire rack... 2 bikes plus you can upgrade to ski's and I use it to mount a Jerry Can too.

I have the Thule SpareMe and it works great. The hitch-mount carriers are awesome, but they don't work (without modding) on the Liberty because the spare is mounted back there.

When I had a Ford Ranger my bed mount solution was to get a fork-mount and bolt it to the bed. Can't find the manufacturer that made the one I had, but Nashbar has a Traps unit that looks like the exact same thing. Just bolt this to the floor in your cargo area, fold the seats down and you're ready to go. http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?sku=1119&srccode=1133 Might have to take the bike seat off to get it to fit in the Liberty though. Depends on frame size I guess. Good luck!!

As an alternative, check this out:

They are height-adjustable, too. You hook one of those puppies over your tire, and it's easy to throw a bike on the roof. Also convenient to have one of those around anyway, especially if you ever put anything else on the roof. $15 or less at your local auto-parts store.

Make sure to get Thule bigmouth racks:
Image

(from the desc: Easy to mount, convenient rack level bike clamping feature. Worry free automatic self-adjusting jaws for perfect bike clamping every time. Dual locking design locks bike to carrier and carrier to rack.) You can throw the bike up there and clamp it in in a matter of seconds, and you don't have to reach all the way up to the frame to clamp it in. Theft won't be an issue, they'd have to steal the whole rack off the roof (including the factory bars). It's so high up, it'll never get hit by a passerby. And the only in-cab space taken up is for the tire step.

If you really want to get an interior rack, I suggest looking into pickup bed mounts and modifying them. I think you can probably get a fork-mount in there somewhere without too much hassle. The bike will fill up the whole back of the liberty, though, and I'd actually be surprised if it will fit standing up in one of those fork mounts. You'd be best off to fold the seats down and just lay the bike on its side.

Here's my idea. Use a pickup bed mount like this:

[/img]http://www.prolineracks.com/Thule-822-Bed-Rider-Pickup-Bed-Bike-Rack-240.gif

(If the image doesn't show then go here: http://www.prolineracks.com/thule-822-bed-rider.html )

Mount it across the rear of the cargo area just inside the tailgate. Your bike will go in backwards with the rear wheel toward the front of the Jeep. The front wheel is removed and the bike clamped in place.
