i decided on getting the firestone destination MT's, but cant decide what size to get, either 245-75-16 in a load rating C, or the 235-85-16 with the only load rating of E. i think the 245's are about 30.5", and the 235-85 are about a 32". i know either way i will have to pound my pinchweld, and might just take the plastic wheel liner out in the front completly, havent decided yet, ill see how bad they will rub, i just dont want the washer bottle and fog lights open to the elements flying at it

im sure the load rating C will be a lot lighter than the load rating of E on the 235-85's

im going to get them on my stock green renegade 16x7 wheels too, i dont plan on getting wheelspacers

Well as much as everyone wants the tallest tire there is think about mileage as well unless you are going to 4.10s, a 32 inch tire is going to hurt gas mileage I would stay with the 245-75s/ lighter tire, but then I drive a bunch so look at things like that, if you only drive 10,000 a year what the heck I guess :wink:

The 235/85 is actually the lighter tire of the two, at 40 lbs. The Load Range C 245/75 is 48 lbs. The 245s Load Range E counterpart weighs the same, 48 lbs.
Tire weight does not necessarily correlate with Load Range, that's why I'd check the numbers.
But besides weight differences, consider tread width difference. Yes, obviously you'd gain a little ground clearance with the 235s, but you'd have a rather skinny tread, which means less traction. We've all heard the two theories to mudding tires, and I have yet to see the skinny tire theory work, unless the rig was jacked sky high to keep the body out of the mud. In the case of 235/85 vs. 245/75, I'd take the 7/10th of an inch extra tread width over the ~7/10th of an inch extra ground clearance. Go for the 245s, unless ground clearance is a priority. And since you're already getting an offroad-oriented tire, I'd go extra tough and get the Load Range E, especially since they weigh the same.

i ended up going with the 235-85-16, i am getting them wed. so my 5 grabbers are probbaly gonna be for sale, how much do you think i could get out of them? they have about 15k on them and the spare is brand new, worn evenly, rotate them every ~5k

I'd keep the A/Ts and put them on some steel rims. You're not going to like the Destinations in any sort of snow or ice, believe me!

finally got em! i love em! i had to cut some behind the foglight door and i pounded down the pinchweld and flattened the plastic. the hatch window hits it by a lot, and the tire is like 1/32" from touching the bumper by the "tire cutout" lol

Sounds like it is time for a spacer for your spare to push it out from the window and the bumper. Or some news wheels with different bs.

its not touching the bumper, just VERY close. and i dont mind closing the door and window in sync with each other, not a big deal for me

i eventually want an arb bumper, i hate all that plastic crap up front especially around the fog area rubbing

i tried pusing that area in by the fogs to keep it from rubbing, with the heat gun, but i couldnt get it to move enough, so i cut it, i left the doors there and zip tied them tight against the fog to keep em away from the tire, it worked out ok

Well, if you flipped your tire carrier it would push the top out more and could solve your problem but it would also push the bottom in so might not be worth the hassle. I flipped mine so I could fit my hi lift jack behind my spare tire. Just an idea anyways.

Now do you remember back when I was tire shopping with the OME lift and you said the 245/70's were perfect, seems like in a couple of months they grew up a few inches. Gotta admit my 30.8" revo's are beginning to look "small" to me after only a month.

Looks great, how do you like going back to the 235 series tire?

It'd also be great if after you ran it for a while to report back with mpg changes with 3.73 gears for future note.

haha yea the 245-70's started to look small to me. so far, i have noticed only a 1mpg drop in the city, im getting 13mpg city right now. but will have to drive it more to really see. im thinking that going with the skinnier tire helped a lot in that department

Since my tires if I'm going to be going over 40 and not on a highway I'v been running O/D off with my 30.8" tires. The OD lock in was too much of a killer. In this weather I've been sitting around 21/22 at around 75, 24+ if I hang around 55 (NO IDEA WHY.. never before), and in town around 16/17. Even on the last tank when I had a good 30 or 40 minutes out on the trail I got 15 with the rest in town over a half a tank.

Basically... Try OD off... It's great, so much better to drive in town, better than stock even. No more bouncing back and forth in gears+ with your 32's you're at about a 11% increase in ratio.

i got about 2.5" front and back. i got the 3/8" clevis in the front and one extra isolator in the rear

thanks for the info! ill try that O/D off, and if i go on the highway ill turn it back on
