I went out to the vehicle a few days ago and noticed that the rear window was down. So no big deal, I just figured the wife must have accidentally left it down. So I jumped in the Jeep to roll her back up……………and …………………nothing happened except some noise from the window motor. I immediately remembered hearing about window regulators failing from other proud KJ owners on the LOST forum. So I called up the 5 STAR Jeep dealership and explained my problem. The service manager was quick to reply that my problem was most likely due to my window regulator needing to be replaced. As a matter of fact, he said, “It’s no big deal, we change them out all the time.” So I say, “I hear that these window regulators seem to be a popular problem” as I referred to the LOST forum. I go on to say, “I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a recall.” He said, “Nope, they don't recall anything that isn't a safety issue.”

My reflection from our conversation: First, I don’t believe him. I think a problem is a problem and that Chrysler will issue a recall whether it’s a safety problem or not. And second, if he was telling the truth, I would think that a window that falls without notice would be and could be a safety concern.

Additional notes: My rear window regulator went out on my 2007 KJ with 9,000 miles. I think we only used the window once the entire time we have owned it.

If they only do recalls if there is a safety issue, then why was there a recall for my flip gate glass opening on its own?

Let me guess?????driverside rear.Join the club.
I could think of numerous safety issues with not being able to roll your window up.
Especially if you have an infant or young kids.

It's also a major issue when bees attack.

The body design of the KJ creates a vacuum in the rear,if the rear glass is open the exhaust fumes will enter the cabin----Safety issue.

I had a very nice round and round with Chrysler people when my 2nd, oh and 3rd window regulators took a crap.

Basically, they said they have no intention of recalling the windows simply due to shoddy workmanship and that they only stand behind their product assuming you invested in the warranty. No warranty, they could care less what happens to it.

I wonder if a lawyer would consider a class action lawsuit over these things?

How much does it cost to replace the regulator when out of warranty? Maybe i should start practicing

Dealer quoted me 76.95 for a new one. FYI the regulator part changed in May of 06. Every one I've seen on eBay wont fit the mid 06+07 KJ's.

I havent lost any rears yet but I had to repalce the driver frotn at 19k, it was abd when I bought it. Passanger front went at 23k, and is out again at 32k.

I cant stand to have JUST the rear windows down becuase of the vaccum it creates, the noise drives me insane.

Jeep knew well before they sold any new '07's that these windows were breaking left and right on the '06's and previous years. They should be fixing them for free.

I'm pretty sure they must have at least one engineer there that could figure out how to fix the design before selling more of them. How difficult could it be to get a window not to break? They even break when people aren't using them. They just fall down. What a poorly run company :(

Are these claims going into the NTSB website? You all should be logging these with the government (if you aren't already)

Edit: Wrong agency... I ment the NHTSA
