If I wanted to take the carpet out, what is involved?

Take the seats out, remove seat-belt bolts where they are surrounded by carpet, loosen the trim where it's holding the carpet in tight (most of which are simply held in place by spring clips) and the entire section from the firewall to under the back seats lifts out all in one piece. Just be careful and wiggle things that are tight (no yanking). The trunk is separate, and also a little more straightforward.

Oops! I removed the seatbelt at the chair! LOL Well, I already did "most" of that just lifting up the passenger side. Same process for the driver I assume? Do I have to remove the rear seats to get the carpet up, or can I just unscrew the bolts and pull the carpet through?

No, its pouring rain, so running cables to and from the Jeep is a bad idea, and also the only dehumidifer I have access to is very old, and huge. I'm going to attempt to remove the carpet after work, and lay it in the basement at my place, with the dehumidifer right infront of it. I figure if I can get the bolts out for the driver seat, and remove the trim, I can lift back the carpet enough than just bolt the seat down. Than I just need to unbolt part of the rear seats so I can lift out the carpet. I don't need to competly remove the rear seats do I? How far back does this carpet go?

So, I did it. I took the front seats out, lifted up the back seats, and than took out the carpet. Its now sitting in my work room with a dehumidifier. I still don't have the passenger seat in yet, but will put that in tomorrow. My goal is for Saturday to put back in the carpet. If this ever happens again, I seriously think I will invest in vinyl carpet, and probably drill a drain plug or 2 :) Lets just hope it never gets to this though :)

Here is the deal, if you do not take the seats out and the entire carpet out the moisture will be there for quite some time. You will also start to create rust and the connectors under the carpet will start to corrode. I know it a lot of work but this is the the right way to do it. Trust me I leaned the hard way cause I got lazy and did not do it right the first ime around.

Well, its been out for a night now. Its in a pretty small room with the dehumidifier, and it is drying out really good. There was a TON of water that was sucked out, I'm giving it a good few days just to make sure it is perfectly dry though. Whats the best way to get the mud out of the carpet?

Wait for it.....Carpet Cleaner!

Just take your time and follow the instructions. A rental or consumer-grade steam cleaner will do it. Also, something like resolve carpet cleaner. Alternatively, and since you have it out already, you can simply use mild soap and water. That's the best part about having it out and a dehumidifier available, you can use the "hose it down good" method..

Oh, and as for not going in that deep next time... you can just get a lift for a bit more wiggle-room :P

A lift is on my todo list, but I am going to talk to the dealer about my seals, cause I don't think the little amount of time I was in water, and the fact it was barely up past the bottom of the door, tells me that should not have happened! Vinyl carpet is on my wish list too :) LOL

So, when I go to put the carpet back in... whats the best way to remove/lift the center console so that I can tuck the carpet under it?

Yea i would look into that also, since one time i was wheeling and actually was leaning over with my rear tire in the air and my front tire under water with water about half way up my front door and no water came in.
