What do you guys think about fiberglass flares? I was thinking of making some that extended further out. I was thinking they would have the Renegade holes, but actually make them functional. Use the holes to actually mount it to the KJ. I might try to thermoform some out of ABS Plastic, but the front one is too large for the vacuformer I was going to build. it would take lot of vaccum for a former big enough to get that front flare in one piece.

I would also like to get opinions on the style. Try to make it look like the KJ's OEM ones, or more like a wrangler?

Thanks,

I don't think bigger would be a good idea. It would probably get smashed on trails. The rest of the idea is great!

I hear what you are saying. There have been times I have had to fold the mirrors in and slide by within an inch or less of the flares. My thought was that many states have laws against the tires not being covered. So these would help guys with tires that stick out stay legal...

Plus with the mounting system, they would be easy to remove and replace for trail rides.

Thats true, I hadn't thought of that. It would be really nice being able to remove them.

UT is pretty stricked about these issues. Not only flares, but mud flaps as well.

Wasn't there someone in Iceland who made some flares, not sure if it was fiberglass.

Yes. But they were REALLY big! I don't know if they were removable either.

I'd be interested in a set that was 1 to 2" wider, prefer them to be plastic like the sport model and/or easily removable at the trail head.

Fiberglass flares?

CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!

My Jeep would look worse than it already does if I had 'glass flares on it. I had a 'glass tub/fenders/hood on my CJ and the stress cracks around the mounting points got pretty bad, too.

This might be what they would look like. The photo on the left is stock.
The one on the right is extended.
This is only an inch or two...
And that is only the back one of course....
Does anyone have any problems with the front one not being out far enough?

I have 265's and I have plenty of flare coverage... Now I could use some extra room in the wheel wells however.

honestly it doesnt make any sense for you to make an extended flare. from what i have seen on this forum and through out the where ever i look, i am the only one that has a problem with his tires sticking out past the flare (2 1/2"). so dont waste your time unless you plan on getting a bigger tire, or wheel spacers. but w/s are for cheaters. so you do what you want. i say all this to the people that dont have the SFA, and SWAMP THING
