I have 110k miles on my KJ, just took off the noisy mtr's and now i have a loud roational groaning noise in what sounds like the left front. It was there before but i thought it was the tires. It goes away when turning hard right. I thought no big deal bad l/f hub bearing. I dropped $203 on a hub bearing, threw it in and the noise is still there? I can hear the noise from about 5-30mph. It goes away if i'm making a 90 degree right hand turn like maneuvering around a parking lot. I'm starting to think this maybe in the front differential. I think i can rule out the front drive shaft and t/case if the noise is gone when turning right because steering should have no affect on the front drive shaft or t/case correct? I guess it could also be my c/v axles, my passenger side has a good amount of play where i could wobble it around but that's the r/f and i swear the noise is in the l/f. Anyone else have a similar issue? I cant afford to guess and just replace everything. :x

Just FYI...for the hub assembly. http://performancepeddler.com/ has them for $62.20 each, shipped, made in the USA. That's what I replaced my right front with.

I replaced that noisy-arse thing, and then found that my left front is making a faint noise too. Put in discount code "ebayrocks" to get it for $62.20 shipped. I got mine in like 3 days.

They also only make them for non-ABS applications, just FYI.

Found these guys on Fleabay, and they're quick shippers.

Cool thanks but of course mine has abs. I got it from a dealer near my work who gives discounts when you buy online. Got it for $203 and it came with a new sensor. I booked marked the page for something i may need in the future.

:x I have this thing completly torn apart and cant figure out what this mother @$#% noise is. It is a wub wub wub wub type noise which sounds like it is coming from the l/f. I pulled the front drive shaft, test drove, and the noise is still there. I pulled both front axles out, they seem fine, checked the r/f hub bearing seems fine. Drained the front diff fluid seemed ok, didn't smell burnt and no chucks of metal came out. With the axles out i was spining the pinion seems fine, didn't feel any play or binding. On right hand turns the noise is gone. WTF? :? This thing is driving me nuts. I have a trip to North Carolina in 3 weeks. I need to fix it by then because if I dont I know it will break down in the middle of the ride down there.

RF hub assembly, my friend.

During a right turn, weight is lifted from the RF wheel and the noise quiets.

Your CV axles might seem fine and will work for quite some time after they start going bad. I would bet that it is your CV if you already replaced the hub. I worn out and replaced my front drive shaft, front right CV and my left is making the noise now as well and is up next for replacement at 130,000 miles. Thinking I might be better off replacing everything with SFA and wonderful U joints;)

I believe you are correct!!!!!!!!!! I swapped the new l/f hub over to the r/f, went on a 15mile test drive and from what i can tell wub wub wub noise is pretty much gone. Still got some thumping in the front end which leads to the next 2.

Second problem with my c/v's out of the hubs they feel a little notchy. Gonna replace those next weekend.

Third problem my passenger side c/v is very wobbly near the inner joint where it attaches to that 2ft. long stub shaft that rides in the long tube in the front diff. When i had the whole c/v out inspecting i could not get the 2 ft. stub shaft out of the end of the c/v. It's all rusted and very wobbly. I compared to 2 other kj's and neither were this loose. Gonna get a new stub shaft and another hub bearing. Front end should be good for another 100k.

Just got it done yesterday, but not happy with it. Steering wheel is a tad bit off center. :x

Yellocoyote...

Lots of pulling. A few taps with a hammer. Maybe some PB Blaster. A bench vise may help if you can get the shaft in there. I just kept beating mine with the hammer and pulling/wiggling like the incredible hulk and it finally came apart. It's a pain, but it WILL come apart.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm having the same problem now. We have the CV joint assembly removed, but also with the 2 foot shaft with it, and we cannot remove it from the CV assembly. :( Did you ever get the shaft removed from the cv's? If so, how? We're stumped.

No but i have an almost new shaft i can sell you. I paid like $140 for the shaft, it has about 1k miles on it. It's coming out this friday since i have raxles axle to put in it to replace the junk advanced auto parts axle.

I know this is a little late, but I just changed my CV's and had the same problem. I pulled the entire CV and stubb shaft out together. By the time I got both of them passed the clevis, I was so P%$#ed Off':x' that I just held the stubb shaft in one hand and clobbered the CV with a 3lb maul. It fell off after a couple of whacks.:D I steel brushed the rust off, slapped grease on the splines and slathered gear oil on the shaft and reused.
