i have an 02 liberty, and i have the rear drum brakes, but on mine, i see like 2 or 3 rubber plugs on the back of the drum assembly, what adjuster is behind each one? im thinking one is for adjusting the drum brake part of the normal brakes, one is for adjusting the e-brake? i know they both use the same shoes for brakes and E-Brake. the thing is iwant to try and adjust the e-brake a little bit, but not sure if there is an adjustment nut under the center console or if i should just adjust them at the rear drums?

i searched but only found how to adjust the e-brake on disc equipped set-ups

thanks!

RAYMAN975,
The emergency parking brake is self adjusting, make sure your rear brakes are adjusted correctly. I use a drum brake adjusting tool and turn the starwheel through the elongated slot on the back of the drum brake plate. Adjust it until the shoes just barely drag.
My emergency brake handle goes about a third of the way up.
If you don't have the drum brake adjusting tool, just use a flat screwdriver.
You might want to check the brake lining as well.

Easiest way to adjust the rear drum brakes is to put the brakes on while going in reverse - the little "star wheel" will ratchet the brakes to the point where they start to touch as Rowa indicated earlier.
For best results, try hitting the brakes fairly hard after getting up to 5-6 MPH in reverse a few times. After you do this, try the ebrake again- it might save some time and extra hand washing. The brake spoon (adjusting tool) or flathead screwdriver works too, but it requires bending over - for us old folks that isn't as much fun
