Dumb Question....

I'm looking into getting an air compressor (the Slime COMP06 Pro Power Heavy-Duty Tire Inflator to be exact) and it requires 15amps from the power outlet. The outlets in the KJ give out 12V but is that 15amps? (duh, sorry i know)

Ok cool! So even if my outlets provide 5amps more than required for the compressor..this is still safe? By the way...how do you know it's 20amps F&B?...I check the manual and online and everything but I couldn't find anything about the amount of amps

if you look in your fuse panel the fuse for each outlet is a 20amp fuse

You could also splice and hard wire it if you needed to. As long as it's 12v, you can use as much power as you need as long as you have the wiring and the alternator for it.

I just bought the Slime compressor after practically frying a cheapo compressor and wasting half an hour trying to air up my MT/R's. It looks pretty good, solidly built, and seems fast, though I've only used it to top off the tires. I'm gonna air one down to 15 or so tomorrow and see how long it takes to get back up to 40 psi. If you're buying it, you should know that it's rated for 10 minutes of continuous use, then needs a 15-minute cool-down period. Doubt if I can air up all 4 in 10 minutes, but you could certainly get enough air back in each one to make it safe for street driving, then finish up at a gas station or back at your own garage. It's amazingly quiet for as powerful as it is. A great buy.

scarletbegonias: I see you have the 03. Mine is an 05 and in the owners book it does show the power outlets as 20amps. Maybe you just missed it. Or, they changed the book.

yeah i bought the slime yesterday off amazon

glad to hear it works so well and thanks for the heads-up about that 10min cool down thing! I was going to go with the o-so-popular MV50 but the slime compressor seemed to have equal reviews..i can't resist buying things with lights on it :lol:

no but seriously I usually air up at night so that was the selling point for me along with the power outlet option instead of connecting it directly to the battery. Fulltimer: Let me check again in the manual..i probably missed it :wink:

which hook-up is better?
1: via power outlet in the f or b of cab

OR

2: straight hook-up to a wired power source (like a tap into fuse)

I had good experiences with the slime compressors but they took forever. Do it right the first time and get either an air compressor or a CO2 tank.

So, I tested it out today. Airing up a cold 245/75/16 Goodyear MT/R from 15 psi to 40 psi took exactly 6 minutes. From 15 psi to 30 psi was about 3:30. So not blazingly fast, but a lot better than the cheap plastic one it's replacing.

I aired down to 15 for the test but I usually don't drop below 20. So for me in actual trail use, I'd probably be going from 20 psi up to 35, which would be about 3:30 a tire, then top em off at 40 when I get home or to a gas station. Figure 7 minutes on, 10 minutes off, 7 minutes on, that's 24 minutes. Not bad for a $50 portable compressor. I understand the appeal of the CO2 systems, but I need all the cargo space I can get, and I just don't like the idea of carrying a tank of highly pressurized gas in the passenger compartment. I'm sure it's not really that dangerous, but I'm paranoid. And I'd love to have on-board air if someone else is buying! Throw in an ARB locker while you're at it.

I'm glad you're happy with it. FYI, it takes me about 30 seconds to air up my 245/75/16 from 15 to 40 psi with my CO2 tank (150psi regulator).

The compressor is just a backup for me...they have air stations in the park a few miles after you leave the beach. Always good to have your own air though, u never know
