This has probably been done time and time again but I am in the market for one. I am thinking about the ROLA brand basket. Not sure what else is out there. I had the MOPAR and didn't really like how tall it was. I want something more low profile. So post up, thanks!

i like it-small and compact design, but strength is somewhat of a problem. and rusts a little inbetween where it connects!

That one could work, I wouldn't have anymore the 100 pds max up there.

if you're looking for low profile, i think ive seen ones that sit down closer to the roof actually in between the rails instead of on top of the cross rails. or that could have been someone's custom mount job, i cant remember for sure. something to think about though.

I had a Westin for a year, it's not very low profile. I have now, but yet to be mounted RL Fab rack. It's the same one TKKJ2002 has on his. It's about as low pro as your gonna get sice it replaced the stock rails and bolts directly to the roof.

my bottom rail of the basket sits down even with the rails, hate to see those that sit 6 inches above the roof what a waste.

you could always do a custom flat one as well, all you need is some cross bars and a ATV loading ramp plus some extra little tricks that I can show you!

I have a Surco and love it but it does sit quite high... I scrape it when I go into underground parking lots http://www.surcoinc.com/R-BR_SR5.html

It is solid and strong enough for a spare and tools etc.

I also have a Yakima rack which is lower profile but I think is less strong. I end up taking them off for mostly city daily driving...

Hare on my Chest

I have the mopar rails now but think they sit too high. Someone on here recently made bars out of fencing that I thought was pretty neat and very low profile. I was going to do and put a slim basket on top.

ATV loading ramp huh, sounds interesting. can't picture it though.

yea my friend has the mopar one on his WK grand cherokee, and they are identical, same exact thing, his doesnt have those side "brackets" either, its identical to mine

About as low profile as you can go,1/2" or so off the roof,and about the strongest you can get.I had my 90lbs spare on there and with me(200lbs) and it didn't even budge at all.

is there a way that you can make it more cage-like on the top?
not knockin' it or anything, believe me if i had the money i'd get one!, but just throwin' things out there.

I have the Coleman basket. For cross bars I have 1"X1" steel tubing closed off at the ends. Nice and low and strong.

im sure you could riptricket. add about 2 more "crossbars" in the front and rear out of the same thick tubing, and get some 1/4" or 3/8" or so tube and make it like other roof-baskets out there, cage-like

i love those lizard roof racks, id love to eventually get one, but i dont really need it right now, i dont haul too much heavy stuff to need it right now, but they are very nice. i have had 2 of my friends get up onto my roof and i didnt see it budge, in the middle it flexed a tiny bit where the 2 halves meet but it didnt move BARELY at all. then i told them to get the hell down, i was pissed

those DEFENDER brand racks are REALLY nice racks as well, not sure how much they cost, but i saw them in person at 4WheelParts and the quality is really good it appeared

It is the way it is and that's it for right now.It cost to much to be custom fabbing one-off's for each person.

Oh yeah i know, just wonderin' if there will be a new design or anything. gotta keep everyone on their feet right!
