What are the advantages and disadvantages of the hook and the D ring?

I took the road less traveled. Now I'm LOST.

Hook is cheaper, easier to use in a quick ping (to give the neighbors a tub up the driveway) and less parts to get stolen. Shackle is more reliable once connected in that you can's have a tow rope slip off if you slack the line. If you're using one, you typically leave a tow strap connected and tied back to the spare tire while O/R-ing so you don't have to mess with a shackle when you get stuck with it underwater. Hooks are easier to use underwater
