I saw there is the write up on the front, rear and transmission fluid changes...great write ups btw. I am curious if anyone has installed a drain plug into their transmission pan? I know you would still have to remove the pan to swap the filter...how ofter should you change that filter?

One last question...the other day I was under my KJ working on my oil change and a few other things, checking for damage and what not when I noticed that my front Dif still had some marking/sealant paint(or whatever it is called) over the bolt. I recently had my diffs done at a Jiffy lube....now with the sealant still there I am thinking I got hosed and they didn't change the fluids. Is there a way to change the fluid and not use the drain plug that is on the bottom of the front dif? I have never changed those out before myself, but will be doing the tranny and diffs here soon as I am never taking it in for fluid changes again, lol.

It would be a PITA to remove the front diff cover to change the fluid. The front diff has a drain plug to drain all the fluid. The rear diff, you're suppose to remove the diff cover and re-seal it and fill it up.

To answer your question - The drain plug would need to be removed in order to drain the fluid. And it is recommended you change the filter(s) every 30,000 miles. If you want it done right next time, do it yourself. It's an easy job. For that matter, both diff's, the transfer case and the tranny are all easy to do.

Probably a stupid question but is there a drain plug on the bottom and fill plug on the top of the front diff? I know Jiffy Lube uses a vacuum hose so they probably just went in the top fill hole and sucked out all the fluid. I watched them do the wifes rear when we first bought it but I didn't see the front and now you have given me a reason to climb under the KJ again...thanks!

Just finished doing my tranny service. A drain plug would have made it much easier, but it wasn't too bad.

I use a big disposable aluminum baking pan, like for a thanksgiving turkey and lots of cardboard.

well the answer is yes. flush drain plug directly on bottom and fill plug half way up just like the rear fill plug. Jiffy Lube sucked you out using the fill plug holes.

My question for you is...how did I get in there in the first place? Did I like it in there? :D

you must have liked it in there if they had to suck you out. either that or you wandered in by accident and got stuck and needed to be sucked out.

I got one, it makes fluid changes a lot less messy. If you're gonna install one have it welded. Mine started leaking around the plastic washers after about a year.
