Either that or this is all an elaborate plan to collect insurance money and buy another one? That is one dedicated Liberty owner to ram his car into something to get his Libby back!

What a wonderful idea!

... but I'm not that crazy.

Thanks for the explanation about how things are handled in non no-fault states.

I thought the appraiser would come today, but he had some computer troubles. So I set up an appointment for tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

Head around to body shops and get estimates beforehand.

The CarStar on Chicago Dr. always treated me pretty well.

Ah, yeah, and I can't recommend Shark's.

The appraiser came today and didn't really give me a estimate or anything. Just looked at the damages and left. All he said was to expect a call in the next day or two.

Thunderbird, never heard of the collision place, from there website they seem to be good. We usually use Hansen (Chicago Drv), so that is what I told the appraiser. Maybe next time...I hope not!

Hansen the one that's kinda on the border between Holland and Zeeland? go down a (moderately) steep driveway and they're behind all the trees and such?

Shark's may have gone out of business...friend of mine had his truck painted by them...3 times...in a year...

That's the one. You can see it off of I-196 BL/M-21, but you have to take a back road to get to it. My family has taken a couple cars to get it fixed there. They do a good job. It practically walking distance from my house (~1.5 miles)

Here is a map:

Hansen Collisions

I'll ask if they can fab me up a bumper for a decent price. I am liking the one that AZ Scout is selling, but it made for a 05-07 and shipping might be a killer.

Ahh, the one thing I don't miss about Michigan.

NO FAULT INSURANCE.

I hope everything comes out in the wash for you, jeepkj02!

Here's what I don't know about other states without no-fault insurance.

If someone hits you, and they don't have insurance, does YOUR insurance pick up the bill?

Only if you have comprehensive, if you don't then your SOL from the @$#% who rear ended you then took off.
(happens quite often here)

However you can pickup a "uninsured motorist" coverage bit that covers you if you have liability only, and someone else is at fault without insurance, cheap for safeties sake. I dont carry comprehensive insurance on any of my vehicles(too much $$) I do however carry the uninsured motorist coverage. I figure this way I am covered for anything that is not my fault.

Uninsured motorist usually does not cover damage to the car but covers towing, lodging, hospitalization, etc. You may want to check with your insurance agent.

Finally the Jeep is in the body shop.

Asked if they could get me an aftermarket bumper. The insurance gave me $500 for a replacement bumper. Anyone know of a aftermarket bumper for a Liberty for around that much?

After I left the shop, did some errands, got home and they left a message saying "can't start your Jeep". As some of you know, I had some problems getting my Jeep to start. So I heading back there to discuss it. Maybe I can get my insurance to fix it.

Darn glad no one was seriously hurt and your Liberty is on it's way to getting repaired. Let us know if you find a front aftermarket bumper for that price, it's a long shot
