Was in an accident on thanksgiving and brought the car to get repaired. The estimate (including labor) was $5,100...does this make any sense at all? Thank god for insurance...this is insane! There looks like no damage but it was in just the right spot where everything meets...

That is a rediculous amount for such minor damage. Better be some hidden for it to cost that much.

repairs are always stupidly expensive, esp when they involve paint

I had a dented door panel, it cost over a grand to get it fixed, including the door, repriming/painting, color match, etc. Highway robbery, but I had insurance anyway, so since it was over the magic number, it was all free after that

The air bags didn't blow, did they?

If not, that is crazy-high! My wife wrecked her Solara. Bags went off, bumper completely off, damage on three sides of vehicle. Cost = $6,500

I would strongly suggest taking the money. Talk to your insurance agent and get the money instead of having the repairs done. You can put up an ARB or even have a custom bumper made for that much!

setting the fender back in shouldn't be a problem at all. ($10 in fasteners)

pick up a pair of clear turn signals. ($40)

reposition your headlight in the correct direction or look for a replacement at the junk yard. ($120 max)

Replace the grill with one off ebay if it bothers you ($40-$60)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-lib ... dZViewItem

pick up an ARB ($800 max)

about $1000.

this could be quite profitable for you...

From the looks of it this is what you will need:

new fog light
new turn signal
new fascia
new front bumper
paint all parts to match
posibally new fender flare
new sub frame ($500+ at the stealership!)

There may be more parts that you need but the labor for all of that plus parts seems a little high. You should have them show you a receipt of what they are doing before you pay them to have the work done.

I did about the same amount of damage to mine a while back, you would be surprised what they found. On mine, the parts alone were $2114.05. There was one cover they needed for a harness, but the only way to get it was to buy the whole harness. That alone was almost $600. As long as the insurance is paying for it, and you are using a reputible shop, you should be fine.

Hope this helps!

Wow. Hope you get it fixed quickly! Are you getting more than one estimate?

WOW.

Since its front damage you probably are at fault?

Depending on your deductible you may be better off paying cash and getting an ARB bumper. That way this blemish won't stay on your record for 5 years.

Depends on the extent of the damage, but that don't look bad at all.

There could be some serious hidden damage under there, when I got rear ended my Blazer didn't look too bad, but the full size dodge that hit it at 45 bent the frame. I was afraid I would have to pay out of pocket for a new bumper, then his insurance bought me a new truck!!!

They had to give u a written estimate. What does it say?
I wouldn't be surprised if they had the hood, the grill, the fender, bumper and don't forget whatever impact attenuating crap is under the bumper, plus possibly frame straightening, paint, etc.

I had minor damage to both front doors (don't ask!) and the bill came to about $2500. and that's with nothing being actually replaced except 1 mirror.

Is there more than the just the bumper and grill damaged? What about the hood and fender. I'm assuming it probably is for 5100 dollars. The fender flare looks okay except for a couple scratches. Can't really tell about the hood and fender.

You can get grills cheap off e-bay already in the right color. I just got one off e-bay for 10 bucks when I melted mine. As for a bumper, you could go with something like and ARB and then be way ahead of the game. I'm sure you could get a turn signal for a cheap off e-bay also.

Here this guy has a white grill for 35 dollars
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... Q%3AUS%3A1

Check car-part.com for salvage yard parts. Even if the fender and hood was damaged, I'm almost be inclined to have the body shop just fix those parts, replace the rest myself and pocket the rest because you know your premium is probably going to double on renewal.

OUCH!!... too bad it was cold...

I tapped a ranger at one of those texas Triangle stop signs that say yield next to a yellow diamond that says merge and an open freeway onramp...(410 loop) Yep he stopped, and I looked back to MERGE... whack!

Anyway, my sport cover has a crinkle in the center not very noticeable, the left side turn lense is cracked inside, but the whole bumper was pushed into the wheelwell, the ranger bumper was hooked on my tow hook, and had to Highlift him off just to get it off the highway...

My bumper poped right out, and when the cop showed up he didn't believe I hit him... Good news, Jeep no noticeable damage except by me, the Ranger damage was $2.00 below Texas reportable accident status! :D

Hmm, you better make sure you dont have any damage behind the bumper covers. If his truck was on your tow hook i dont see how it didnt hurt something.

About the original post. I would take that money for sure and not get it fixed. If you dont do that then your crazy. I dont think you need a new steel bumper. All i see is the bumper cover, turn signal, grill, maybe a steel fender and the plastic fender. Get it all painted and put it on yourself and around $1500 later youve got $3500 in your pocket.

Take the money and run. Nothing some of carefully placed snow and duct tape cant fix, until the ARB comes in the mail.

What happened was some guy (probably drunk) tried passing me and when he cut back to pull in front of me he wasnt far enough ahead so he easily clipped my front end spinning me (on the icy roads) into a poll. The color on the bumper isnt blood or hair or anything just wood rash, haha. As far as the repairs go there were a lot of parts damaged, $2,400 worth, the rest is labor. Once I get a hard copy of the bill ill be sure to post it. Insurance company is paying for everything (less my $100 deductible) so i dont care how much it costs...thats what I pay $230 a month for.
Ill keep you updated!

Yea it is kinda high....I am 25 years old though. Ive never even had any tickets or accidents (until this one, which isnt going to raise my premium). And this is the cheapest I could find. Crazy huh....the more this costs the better as far as im concerned. It feels good to bend them over for once!
