As fuel prices remain high, there is no doubt that the SUV/TRUCK market will come to a screeching halt. Chevy, Ford, and Chrysler are shutting down plants that make these gas guzzlers. Fuel economy is starting to become a “fad” that is offering consumers with the bragging rights for going green and saving at the pump. With the lack of refineries, supply and demand for oil, and our foreign dependency on oil, I think the SUV and Truck markets will dwindle. If our EPA wasn’t so ridiculously strict, we’d be driving fuel efficient cars, trucks, and SUV’s with diesel engines. Maybe as biodiesel becomes more defined and recognized by our local, state, and federal governments, then we might see more diesel options which would meet many of those strict EPA guidelines. There is no reason why a Grand Cherokee shouldn’t be getting 28 mpg or better.
