You need the A-pillar gauge pod.

I would recommend:

1) Coolant Temp
2) Oil Pressure
3) Transmission Temp

Autometer electric gauges should do nicely.

I have trans temp and volt meter in a a-pillar pod. I'd like to replace the volt meter with an oil pressure gauge though.

Is there anywhere else to place gauges? I was thinking that someone had gauges on their dashboard......................

You can mount gauges anywhere you want, hood, cowl, dash, headrest, and so on.Some places are not as practical as others  .

I thought it'd be neat to have a huge gage in each of the 3 AC vents closest to the driver.

I sure as heck wouldn't do it though, I like my AC:D

If you're good with doing fiberglass work, then you can put them anywhere. I was thinking the best spot might be above the driver on the headliner, next to the rearview mirror. Or maybe on top of the dash in the center.

was the actual wiring a big PITA? Also does the brand of the gauges matter?
