As a newbie to this site and the KJ life. I was just wondering what should be the first buy for my KJ. I am wanting to get it ready for some serious off roading. And just for fun while we are at this I need to see some good pics of KJs in the mud.

What is your budget?

I always suggest skid plates and recovery points first. But if you have the budget, do lift and tires at the same time.

ok, first off, where in ohio are you from? we have lots of ohioans on here so there might be some members near you!

second, my opinion is that reliability and safety comes first. so, what i would (and did) do first is get your armor and recovery under control. thats going to be a full complement of skid plates (front, transmission, transfer case, fuel tank) and rock rails for armor. then just make sure you have front and rear recovery points. your kj might already have this stuff. the stock tow hooks up front work great and look like they belong, in the rear, you can get a tow hook on one side, or if you have a hitch receiver just get a d-ring shackle attachment. top it off with a good recovery strap and you're all set on step 1 :D

lastly, heres a nice stuck in the mud pic for you

X3 or X4... what ever.

You would not play football without a cup, would you? Get your belly protected FIRST, then get prepared for the inevitable STUCK picture of your own and have your recovery points secured. The go for the extras, Bull bar, winch, roof rack, ....

Skids and Rock Rails FIRST. and NEVER wheel alone, so somebody is there to use the recovery points.

X?
skids
recovery points
lift/tires
Traction enhancing devices
The reason I put lift and tires the way I did is the 2 go hand in hand
get tires pre lift and they will be small post lift get the lift and the current tires will look funny

Strange people in Bartlett, still own a few acres in Barlow, need to stay away from an old girlfriend in Beverly, Nelsonville, they don't even make shoes there anymore

maybe he's from Pomeroy only place that has a 3 story courthouse that you can access each floor from ground level
Also still holding the Indian Rock hostage

Oh just to clarify you should get recovery points first, skids are useless if you do not have a place to be recovered from when you get stuck.

funny another member on here is from that area or his parents just moved from there. Been all through Shawnee/Corning, even been to the Moonshine Festival there a few times   Had a friend named Steve ( a school teacher) that lived there, lost track of him though

But welcome to the site and hope to see you soon

I can not think of it old age hitting in! But he was on a bunch of the Appalachian post cards back a few years ago. Big time Parrot Head. haven't seen him since 2000 /2001 or so....but anyways, nice country down through where you live, miss living in that area a lot!!
So any pictures of your Liberty yet?

I will agree on the very first thing you should get being recovery points. I don't care what you wheel, but when you go out make sure there is a way to be recovered. If you ain't gettin strapped you anit haven no fun! I guy I know from my days in NM wrote a great articule on his web site for first time wheelers. I consider it a must read for anyone that wants to hit the trails.
