Hello,

I know there was a previous thread on this, but with getting ready to go through my first full winter, please give advise from those whol have a good way of keeping the cold air out of the front of the Jeep. I think I remember a good cold weather front "blanket" that snapped on?Thanks

Pete

My CRD has gone through three winters with sub zero temps without the use of a grill cover. The really cold temps reduce the MPG by about 2-3 mpg. Others have installed covers, but I do not know if it has made a difference in mpg. The only real change I have noticed in very cold temps is that the tranny will not shift into overdrive until the engine reaches a certain temp. I do not know if this is to get the engine up to temp faster, or designed to protect the tranny from "thick" fluid until warm. It certanly would not hurt to use a cover, but don't think that it is necessary.

In addition, I have never plugged in the heater and the Jeep has started in very cold weather without problem. The stations here sell only winter blended diesel after a certain date and I have not had a gelling issue down to about -20F. I do keep a bottle of anti gel in the car just in case, but so far it has been ok. I do get good cabin heat in very cold temps, but my gauge runs at about 11:55 instead of the "normal" 12:58.

I live in WI sub zero temps last winter no cover. MPG in 18 -19 MPG once it got below freezing. Was averaging 21 MPG. But I was also bleeding air off every 3 to 4 days then.

I do plug it in once the temps get into the 20's., pumping warm air before I get out of town when plugged in.

I now have a in line fuel pump my CRD, no more shutter, no more bleeding off the air, runs like a raped ape, having a hard time driving normal with all the new found power, I'm going to try to keep my foot out of it this week see what I can get with normal driving. Even with a lead foot I'm averaging 26 MPG city/highway.

I can't say enough good things about the Fia grill cover. I put mine on at the beginning of last winter and warm ups are waaay faster and the engine stays warm longer after shut down...ready to go again. A warm diesel is a happy diesel!
