Why not take the spare of the back, place it carefully on the hood, make a picture and show it to us.

The hood on the Landy is made of alu and reinforced where strength is needed, there are no hinges but interlocking pieces of metal that function like a hinge and yes it uses a prop up rod that is fitted at the bottom and top and hinges in the middle.

When you take a KJ hood and weld some tubes at the underside and fit the spare tyre holder form the back door onto the hood it might work and it will be more fuel efficient than a roof rack with spare on top.
It is even better than a roof rack with the spare on top as the centre of gravity is lower and your KJ will fit into your garage again.

Be careful if you put the spare on the hood, even for pictures...

My wife let me take some "artistic" skin pictures of her on the hood of the Libby, and now it is dented. She has a tiny figure too, so I assume a big spare tire on the hood would probably wreck it.

The dent was worth it though....

I completely agree. We need to see the pictures to judge the weight distribution and placement of the wife in the pictures to be completely fair. The spare might work but until we see both, HOW can we judge?

no no non no please don't too early in the day for those pictures
But if you think about it, a spare tire and wheel is like say 55/60 lb ( just for a rough fiqure) with that weight spread out over an area of say 31 inches across, now from just looking at my wife her weight at maybe twice the tires weight ( I don't know and would get in troubleif I ask) but the "area " that she would touch the most is "somewhat smaller" so more weight per square inch would be on that area of the hood so yes you would get bigger dents than the tire

NOTE ALL OF THE ABOVE IS PURE BS SO it's all fun and games
