Everyone that lives in the snow belt knows that snow tires are an almost must-have (especially if you have FWD car). But is there anyone that uses any M/T all year round in the snow? And how do they work out for you?

From what I have read on 1010tires.com and what the pics show on tirerack, is the Firestone Destination M/T really pinned for studs? If this is true, I'm defenatly picking up a set of them. I love my Destination A/T, but they still are not up to par for the slush and deep snow.

http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tirebrand=Firestone&tiremodel=Destination+M%2FT

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Destination+M%2FT

Any help is appreciated...

I changed my MT's out for AT's during the winter months. My girlfriend was driving my jeep coming home from work one night with the MT's and slid. I changed them out for the AT's the next day and haven't had a bit of problem. Of course they don't do as well in the mud, but they have gotten me through with the set up I have.
Here is a link to another tire that's not on Tire Rack that I found, that may fit your needs. I was thinking of trying them out when I need to replace my AT's. Look at the ratings it gets. Snow and Mud are both 10.

It is true, the M/Ts are pinned for studs. I have never had a problem with them in any sort of weather...it doesnt snow much in AZ but they were on my old 2wd Lib last year when I took it up to Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming for snowboarding trips and they handled better than I imagined. I didnt slide once and they got me through a decent amount of slush in the parking area with ease. Great tires...I love them!

Siping works wonders on an M/T, check out the Cooper SST. They will most likely be my next set of tires.

oo loks like a great tire what kinda warranties? would you say they're cheaper than say a BFG M/T or other comparisons or are they more expensive because of siping?

I'm am going with the cooper discovery atr,not as aggresively treaded as the stt, more of a allterrain tire.they still have siping running to the edge of the tire.look like they will cleanout well.do more onroad than offroad. getting rid of stock goodyears, run on gravel road and with 4500 miles on tires,am getting impact breaks, causing flats.too thin of tire.priced at $105 apiece for 4 ply and $128 for 6ply which is the one i get come with full road hazard warranty

I was also thinking about these dunlops:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Dunlop&tireModel=Radial+Rover+R%2FT

Designed for commercial vehicles, suppose to work well in the snow and the mud. Also pinned for studs. It looks pretty good too.

i have been running my destination m/t in the snow and i dont have them pined with studs. i have not had any truble. as long as i watch my speed and drive smart. withch you want to do with snow on the ground anyway. i have fish tailed in 2wd in just a dusting of snow but that was becasue i was playing around and was trying to learn how the car feels in the snow. :D

i have been running my kj in 4 fulltime in the snow and have had no problom. i have even taken it up a 3 mile hill climb to get to a hunting locating last week and i was the only one that had made it to the top besides snowmobiles. at the time we had just got 8" of snow and just this morning we just got 8" more.

yeah when it comes to deep snow, I'd take a M/T tire over an A/T tire any day of the week. That's a no-brainer.

Now, ice....that's a different ballgame....

ATR's are a good tire, I got them about 4 months ago and like them a lot. It sounds like I do a lot of the same driving as you and so far they have been great in the snow. Only thing I noticed is they take a little while to warm up when it's extremely cold which is probably the case with all tires but I thought I would mention it.

I was considering the STT's but they had to order them and didnt have one I could see in person. Looks a little too aggressive for my use but again I couldnt tell by the picture so I went with the ATR's and I am very happy.

i have had no trouble with my destination m/t's not griping. only reason i was fish tailing was of ice and was having a little bit of fun in the snow. as for studs what are you asking? are you asking what studs are? well they are a peace of steel that is treaded and is screwed in to a tire to give it more traction. if you are asking what i meant by pinned, well i have all ways call the the holes that are put in to tires as pinned, because of the pin size hole thats in the tire for the studs. this is the locating that the studs are screwed into. something that BFG"s don't have! so they can not be studded!

if you want to see what i mean go to www.tirerack.com and look at the Firestone destination m/t and look at the BFG's and you will see little holes in the Firestone tire thats is what is meant by pinned for studs. in some states you can not use studs others only allow you to use them in the winter months.

I have Firestone Destinations M/Ts in 245/75R16. These tires have yet to let me down, and Colorado had a lot of snowfall recently. Sure they slip on ice...but everything seems to slip on ice. I would never sacrifice what I get offroad and in snow on-road with the M/Ts for the minor advantage off possibly slipping a little less with a winter or AT tire. The Destination's do a real good job of clawing down through the snow and gripping the road's surface, be it asphalt, dirt, or rocks.
