if you have an 05 you won't need to remove anything other than cut out the plastic notch in the bumper. Those M bolts thread in 1 hole and then back out the other, hold the tow hook in place and finger on the nuts. then the fun begins. A ratchet with a long extension and swivel worked great for me.

it looks like installing the hooks on an 05-07 without removing the bumper requires the M bolts?

not this hardware?

and dealers cant get M bolts?

Those in the last pic are the plate type hardware which require bumper removal. Those m bolts are about impossible to find. With my kk i just used regular bolts and fished them through the frame by taping string to the bolts with a washer on them and a hanger. There is a square shaped hole behind the wheel well liner. Hold the end of the threads with vise grips to tighten the nut and no bumper removal required. Cant remember the bolt size just make sure to use flange nuts and grade 8 hardware.

Similar to 501 I used 3 bolts to mount my tow hook to my jeep. I did have to take off the front bumper facia but it really wasn't that bad, and if you have to drive anywhere before you put the facia back on you look pretty hard core....

On an '05, the bumper literally just falls off, lol.
Not really, but it is super easy.
And I'm not sure U-Bolts will work the same, Im sure they will hold the hook in place, but used for recovery? It might bend the thin sheet metal that it is mounted to in a weird way. The "M" bolt has a bend to add another pressure point on the hook to keep it flat.

Pop the hood, release the grill with five(?) plastic tabs, it comes right out.
There are a couple reusable rivets in the wheel wells and underneath, and your done!
(Oh, and You might have 4 or 5 screws holding the lower air dam in place, I can't remember because I trimmed my bumper a LONG time ago.)

Enjoy!!!

That's the perfect write up, I forgot about the two bolts behind the grill next to the running lights, still, it is very easy. You take those "crush" caps out to drop the two bolt bracket in.

Good luck!
