I need to reseal the '06 Libby's leaking front diff cover after a wheeling trip sans engine skid. Any advice on removing the brace between the diff cover and front crossmember? I've got it loosened, but it doesn't look like I can pull it out without removing the lower driver's side control arm.

You are correct, the front diff mount has one bolt that requires the drivers side LCA be removed. You will need a alignment after that also.

That's what I was afraid of - one more reason to kick myself for headed out without the front skid. I should be able to support the LCA with a floor jack, just disconnect the two chassis bolts, and lower the LCA while it's still connected at the ball joint?

And thanks for reminding me, the poor Libby needs an alignment regardless. I haven't had one since before I put the clevis spacers in, and it's been a few good wheeling trips since then.

I had the same problem, I just put a glob of RTV where it was leaking. Check it periodically.

Yes, there is a drain plug in the front. There is no need to remove the front diff cover.

As it turns out I was able to just remove the front LCA bolt and use a pry bar to lower the joint enough to get the brace bolt out. The new diff cover is on and no more leaks! Engine skid is going back on, then I'm on my way to get the alignment done.

Good job, Dave. Image

Thx man, next up is to chase down the cause of a P0420 CEL code. I already changed the driver's side downstream O2 sensor, no luck. If the the driver and passenger sides are interchangeable on the '06 I'll try that next, otherwise it's another new sensor, then off to see if the dealer will warrantee a couple of cats with minor trail damage.
