Ok so I ordered a front engine skid (02-04) but it did not come to me with the hardware to install it. Hopefully he’ll chime in but if not can someone let me know what I’ll need. Size of the bolts, any nuts, etc. I’m assuming everything will line up so I won’t need directions or anything like that but if it’s more complicated and you have directions or time saving pointers please chime in. Thanks!

are they the same bolts that would be used for the rear tow hook or hitch?

Where did you buy the front engine skid?

Scooby,
Hey talked to the dealer and as JSC stated, 10m x 30 w/ 1.5 pitch. Should be able to get from a local hardware store for much cheaper than MOPAR. All you need to do is thread the bolts into the holes in the front engine cradle and front cross member. You'll need a extension for the front bolts. Nothing hard at all. A second set of hands or jack will help if you have the transmission skid too.

on a side note, for the cross member part, i drilled out the nutzert and ran a carriage bolt up through it so the bolt head didn't get stripped down any more. The front bolts are covered by the skid.

later, mike

do the bolts need to be a certain strength? Do they need to be as strong as the tow hooks or hitch bolts? (I think almost 5,000lbs each bolt) or is regular Home Depot Bolt strong enough? Also, what type of metal do I want? Steel, Galvanized steel? Aluminum? Sorry for all the questions I just want to make sure I do it once and do it right. I would hate to catch a rock on the skid and have it shear the bolts off. Finally, do I need to spray them with an anti-rust paint or anything like that?

And 10mm x 30mm with a 1.5 pitch is the correct size? Just the 4 bolts, and no nuts right?

yes just the 4 bolts and I think it may be 1.75 pitch but Im not positive on that, and you need the metric version of the grade 8 which is 10.9, the 10.9 is stamped on the head of the bolt

no the rear hitch is only a 12mmx40x1.75, the front engine skid is a 10mm

even more confusion. So I know that the rear hitch was 12mm x 40 and 1.75 pitch. I even bought a tap to clean out the rust in the threads and I certainly wasn't re-tapping anything, just cleaning. I have a '04, I know they changed the hole pattern in the '05 so hopefully they didn't change the bolts which would confuse people even more.

Can anyone else weigh in on what size bolt you would need for the front skid of an 02-04 Liberty. I need to confirm the pitch, and the bolt size. Is it possible there are two different sizes specific to the year? Thanks!

Sorry to bring this back but I haven't been able to find the bolts at parts stores. Anyone know what the actual part number is so I can try ordering them on-line?

For an 05 it's 6101060 - screw & washer hex head M10x1.5x30 - I assume it's the same for an 04

$1.60 each

ATXKJ - Thanks, but the front engine skid should only fit the 2002 - 2004. I'm not sure what the change was but I'm almost certain it won't fit any other years.

This is becoming a major pia. I called the dealer to see if they had the bolts in stock for the skid plate and they will order and have them by tomorrow - $2.10 each. Great!...

But they are telling me that the 2004 front engine skid plate also has 2 brackets that are needed at $26.25 each! The part numbers are below. Does anyone know if I need those brackets?

# 5112 8545 AA - Right bracket
# 5212 5444 AA - Left bracket

I was under the impression that the 2004 skid plate only uses 4 bolts and those bolt directly into the frame with a 10m x 30m bolt with a 1.5" pitch. Is that not the case?

How about those nut-zerets? Is that what they're called? The little nuts with a U-bracket mount that you use for the rear tow hook. Does the skid plate use any of those?

front skid no matter what year uses 4 bolts PERIOD. I take my wifes off her 02 every oil change and mine on the 05. no difference in bolts but I think the holes are spaced differently between the years 02-04 and 05-07.
