I wanted to start this thread so that we can summarize our options for bumpers...

Looks like all i can find are ARB Bull Bars, looks like the rest are "In the works..."

Correct me if im wrong, or point me to another page, im not sure if this is a repost, but i am still dumbfounded on how to get accurate results from the search feature haha (sorry mods!)

Thanks for the help once again guys!

There is a bumper thread. It's a sticky in, I think, the KJ 4X4 section.

The only off the shelf buy it today - is ARB

there's another one from Australia - but it's a special shipping thing and RL has 2 in development - should be ready soon (measured in months) and I think Trailready will make one to order (02-04 does not fit 05 up)

Here is what I got from TrailReady a few months back.

“The base model front bumper is $999, and the PreRunner/Grill style front bumper is $1149. Prices do not include shipping.”

TR??? not sure about them, first time I saw one I wanted it, in late 04 early 05 I talked to them several times over 6 or 7 month period. I wanted and had the money waiting for both front and rear, first they would make them , then not , back and forth they went, finally gave up and found my used ARB.

I'm talking to someone who is making a front bumper for the 02-04 KJ. He is starting to make some designs on CAD. He seems willing to start producing them, if there is enough interest. Once he sends me the pictures, I'll post them here.

Thers's also the Australian TJM model 17, which is available in alloy or steel with integral winch mounting and 2 recovery points. I've got an alloy one on order which is currently away being powdercoated. Better approach angle than the ARB and the alloy one is lighter than the ARB. A lot of the guys in Aus who have them speak well of them, so it is definitely worth considering. I think that it's a bit cheaper than the ARB as well, and personally I do like the look of it:)

I personly like the TJM on the '05s and newer, plus if you really wanna save on weight they have one that is an alloy so its fairly light weight

one of the big reasons i like the ARB is because of the grill guard loop, if i could get the rock monitor bumper with that added, id be alot more partial to it. another downfall with the ARB, that ive seen is that it dent's easier than others. im only saying this because i read a thread on here, that i cant find at the moment, that was comparing 3 different bumpers, and it seemed that the ARB dented the easiest.

i could be wrong, but my thinking is that if im going to add a huge chunk of steel to my vehicle, i might as well get a dang beefy piece...

Remember, the ARB is the only airbag approved bumper. It also features recessed indicators, recessed OEM fog lamps, tow points, split pan, and Hi-Lift Provision. Plus, you need to think about whether you want a winch or not?

you bring up some great points... thanks for the insight... my decision is leaning towards ARB again after refreshing my memory... i like the safety factor of the airbags, especially when on the highway with my girlfriend, family, or what have you...

im sure you true hardcore rock crawlers will have other reasoning, and it makes TOTAL sense, but i need them airbags...

jeepsterxj, the ARB can also house the winch whereas the RL bumper would require a removable winch mount. There are Pro's and Con's for each. There is no doubt that the RL products are excellent made, I just wanted to make sure you knew and understood the additional benefits of the ARB.

I think that the TJM product is now airbag compatable, too !

http://www.tjmgeebung.com.au/06_77_kjcheroT17.pdf

(I, myself would go the ARB, though. I like the look of the ARB and although maybe just a little heavier, they have a good reputation and wider dealer network)

With how our SRS system activates,by inertia switches, the front bumber really has nothing to do with how the SRS system operates. Now the ARB,unlike others, has the crush areas built in so as to "crush" like the OEM bumber and makes the unibody work the way it is supposed to(which often leads to a totaled vehicle). Now having a front bumber that does not crush like the OEM bumber has it's advantages and disadvantages, basically how much do you want to spend fixing your KJ in a hard wreck? The effects on the SRS system is not effected, though some will say it is,sorry but changing a bumber does little to effect inertia switches,it changes the vehicles inertia.

wow im really going to loose my mind with this whole bumper deal, lol, i think ill just base it off who ever has the prettiest looks haha, because now that your saying the airbags will work, then... i might as well buy yours (RL) because its beefy and i know it will handle a crash better then the arb for sure....
