My Rear gate is not locking properly.

Using the key fob, I lock the car.

If I pull the handle slightly, the lift glass does not go up, so the glass is functioning properly.

However, when I pull further, the gate opens up no matter whether the car is locked or not.

I can manually use a screwdriver to rotate the locking clip in the gate, but it doesn't seem to work electrically.

Any ideas??? Are there fuses for this?? Should I just go into the dealer?

Thanks!

When you stand near the rear gate. Can you hear the loud click of the locking mechanism?

I can only hear the lift glass mechanism, the gate lock makes no noise at all when using the lock/unlock on the key fob...

I had something similar happen - the electronic lock mechanism within the tailgate died and had to be replaced...

If it is the mechanism, is it best left to the professionals? Or is it a possible Do-it-yourself job with the right part number?

Took it into the dealer this morning to show them the problem. They said it may just be the switch, in which case it will only be a couple of hundred bucks (canadian). However, they did mention that it could be a control module not sending the information to the lock switch. Doesn't see like a possibility since the lift glass works fine...

We shall see, it goes in for the moring tomorrow for surgery.

Yes, you should definitely get to the dealer before your warranty runs out...

I took the jeep in this morning. After 1 hour of diagnosis, they determined it was the rear gate latch relay, which, including labour would be $582.00 Plus taxes, plus the diagnosis fee of $110.00.

I just about drove off the road when I heard that (not that I was driving with a cell phone to my ear).

Anyway, I have 64300 Kilometers on the Jeep, that's just over 4000 over the bumper to bumper. I have no extended warranty. After some very hopefull requests to still cover it under warranty, She looked into it and said she'd call back.

One hour later and she says " Well, we can do it for you as a "good will" " Again, I just about drove off the road. Sweeeet!!!

So all I paid for was a tire rotation. 19.95 Plus Tax.

So if you have this issue, get it fixed ASAP. Or drill a hole on the inside of the gate and ratchet strap the gate closed to your child safety restraint tether anchor. Either way.
