Years ago when I was in my van modifying stage, many vans were cut that way and they just put another rear cap on the front and smoothed everything in where the lights etc went. The stretched back versions balanced the best and they cut weight by using a trailer axle and swiss cheesing the frame and body section under the upholstery to cut the weight and improve balance. For instance, in the front, you didn't need the hinges and all the extra weight and strength designed to support the former rear doors once they were welded shut.
