Don't know too much about HHO systems but pull your maf out and do the ORM or buy the SEGR kit and have no CEL or fit a blocking plate to the EGR and remove the butterfly in the FCV but you will have a CEL.

Doing this with your Provent will keep your map sensor cleaner.

You've just replaced your hoses which is fine and you have to remove your intercooler and clean it if you want to do it correctly.

Just got off the phone with a friend who used this website to research emissions issues for a number of vehicles. The word is that just a little bit of soot or particulate matter can hold the EGR valve open which will then throw a code on Low EGR Valve pressure and such. Even a brand new valve will be clogged unless the system is purged of the particulate matter. This will then lead to richer fuel mixture, more soot, hence...more problem.

I pulled my MAP sensor out and what is written in the CRD TECH section on MAP is sure right...after 2-3000 miles, my MAP is 50% covered in new soot. ( I am sure it is from the EGR Valve). The provent and new samco hoses have remove some of the oil from entering the system but what is there is the CAC remains. Is there a way to clean out the CAC?

Thought I would share this.

When I pull the intercooler out, is it a chemical cleaning, air pressure or both. How would one clean the CAC?

My mileage is on the rise, smoke is brown and not black...I do want to do this right. Still shooting for 30+mpg on mixed driving.

Hot water and a good detergent/degreaser.
Be sure to rinse thoroughly with HOT water.

Haven't done this myself. Still trying to figure out if I can do it without removing
the radiator.

Automatic dishwasher detergent works good for flushing cac's and radiators.

Has anyone taken off the CAC? How difficult is it if I just start disconnecting what looks to be part of the CAC. the Shop Manual I have doesn't say anything about it.

Is it bunch in with the radiator removal?

For a radiator, the dishwasher detergent seems that it would be great since you'll be removing water related stuff.

For the CAC, it could be a challenge for the detergent and hot water to loosen and emulsify all of the sludge that could be in there.

I think I would be inclined to use something like a laquer thinner (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=p ... lpage=none) to dissolve much of the stuff that's in there. I checked the MSDS and it's a mixture of stuff that's not too terrible. Some of the solvents in there will be slow to dry, so a final rinse could be done with acetone (also available in the paint section of your local hardware store) which will leave quickly.

I work at a semi truck dealership, and we are always having to remove and clean out charge air coolers because of turbo failure. We use Dawn dishwashing soap and a Hotsey putting very hot water in it. We let it run for about 20 minutes flushing it out. It usually cleans them out very well.

Fair enough. It's just the chemist in me wanting to dissolve all of the stuff in there. I just have a devil of a time cleaning the oil residue off my fingers after changing it. ...if I could only withstand 160 deg F water temperatures.
