Would anyone know when installing a brake contoller such as the Tekonsha Prodigy what's the best way to wire it,Is the liberty pre-wired to accept it or should it be hard wired? I need to install a seven wire round plug on a stock liberty sport without the factory tow package and just looking for the best way possible,Thanks...Adam

I am not sure how hard it would be to install. I believe, don’t hold me 100% to this that you can buy a harness that will plug into the wiring on the KJ for the Stop, Tail and Turning lights. For the Electric brake wire I had the tow package and it was pre-wired for the electric brake I found it behind the kick plate on the drivers side. For wiring in the rest of your brake controller I asked the service dept to speak to a tech to find out what wire to hook up to. I don’t remember what wire it was and the jeep is at the shop getting work done on the front end so I can’t go look for you.
I hope this helps you a little bit, there should be enough other owners here that have installed a brake controller that will be able to help you more than me.

Some people say you must get the factory wiring harness to use the brake controller wire. That is not true. I went with the drawtite 7 pin wiring harness.

I got this,

and this,

With mine i had to run a wire all the way to battery, which i liked, but on the web site, it doesnt say anything like that now. They may have changed it. The 7 pole adaptor plugs into the wiring harness, and then you must wire the other wires into your jeep. Theres one for the brake, power and accessories on the trailer. Ive not hooked up the 7 pole adaptor yet b/c ive never needed it, and i accidently ordered two, so if you need one send me a pm. Theres a nice little box that the 7pole adaptor goes in and it clamps to your hitch, i got the 3" one and i needed the 2.5" one, so if i ever do need it, i have to order another little box. Ive used the 4pole connector a bunch of times and love it. Works great for my boat that doesnt have brakes.

The box im talking about.

If your jeep has an over head mini computer (evic) you should have the wire already there. Heres where its at. sorry for the crappy pics. Your need to take that little kick panel off where th hood latch is and take that little white thing off and a bunch of wires are behind it. Its got a tag on it that says elec brake. it goes all the way to the back of the jeep where you must cut into it if you get the drawtite wiring like ive got. the mopar harness would already have the 7pin adaptor with the wire hooked up.

This is all the stuff i got. As you can see, i got two 7 pin adaptors. On the left is the wiring harness, that red wire is the one i had to run all the way to the battery. The 2nd thing over is the little box, i got the wrong one. 3rd thing is the 7pin adap, 4th is a hitch plug, then the thing all the way to the right is another 7pin adaptor.

Hope i helped ya and didnt confuse you. Pm me if you want that 7pin adaptor.

That rubber boot in the right rear is a great place to run external wires. I put a relay in that area, connected it to the 12 Volt plug, and ran the wires through that boot to extra backup lights.

Care to show us a pic of those back up lights? Ive always wanted those and ive never seen any i cared for. Did you wire the relay into the hitch wiring to get it to kick in, or just wire it to the tail lights? I dont even know if the hitch wiring has a wire for the reverse lights.
