I've never heard that in any other vehicle, it's a weird clicking sound that lasts a couple of seconds when I come to a full stop....something like a ratchet sound. It's always done that.
Thanks

no one knows? I think it also does it just after I put it in gear after starting the Jeep. It sounds like something engaging.......

im not sure what it is, but i've heard that question asked on here many times. the answer is always that its totally normal and every chrysler tranny does it. this is totally second hand info and i'm just repeating what ive seen on here.

i hear the same described noise in my KJ as well. a click, as if something is engaging. tried to find what makes the noise by changing gears, a/c conditions, or whatever else. the noise doesn't seem to have a rhyme or reason, so i just live with it. glad to know it's everyone and not just me.

Does it do it when you take off from a start also? Mine used to it was my belt tensioner.

I believe it is the tranny being put into gear. The shifter is not a physical shift into PRNDL. It is just a big switch that tells an electronic motor to move the tranny into the appropriate gear. The noise is the motor shifting the tranny into Drive or what ever gear your putting it into...

Ohh, yea, thats just the solenoids in the tranny shifting gears.

You can hear it really good if youre ever around an old chrysler van when they are coming to a stop. I hear them daily when Im walking on the sidewalk.. :)

awesome thanks for the replies guys. I knew it was normal, I just wanted to know what it was so if someone asked me what that noise was I could tell them.
