So since I just got my DL installed earlier today I thought I would go out to my dads field and test it out, well I ending up getting stuck in some mud, so I started to rock the KJ and I got nothing there was a hump that it just wasnt going to get over. And its been a little dry here and since I was in a field it never gets mowed and my muffler ended up catching the grass on fire which took me a second to realize, I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a orange-reddish glow and I immeditily turned the KJ off and jumped out of my Jeep and started throwing mud and some water that pooled around me but the fire was spead from the drivers side rear wheel to the passengers side wheel and went from under the muffler to under my gas tank

I did manage to put out about half of it with mud and the pooled water then I remembered that I have a fire extinguisher so I yanked it off its mounting and used it all up and tossed it off to the side and by this time most of the flaes were out just some ambers so I crawled around making sure it was all out and putting mud over whatever was still glowing. so by the time I got it all out I was completely covered in mud with it being about 40* outside and it was dark out and I was alone.

I ended up calling my cousin who lived a mile down the road and he came and pulled me out with his 2500 Diesel Ram.

And I when I first got out of the Jeep and saw the fire I heard a hissing sound and while I was telling my friend what happened I figured out what it was, the fire had burnt through the air lift lines, but luckily that was the only thing damaged tonight. But it almost made me make a mess in my pants when I saw that fire under my gas tank, all I could tink about was 'man this gas tank is gonna blow up with me under it trying to put this fire out!'

what do you mean had?? I still have that look on my face lol

they were doing great! I made it up some very steep hills without any wheels slipping until I hit that mud pit, then it was just about all down hill, although I did get to use my front bumper to get pulled out and it held up perfect, which it should since its 95% 1/4"

oh ya I have already laughed about it now, but ya I pretty much did a face plant into the mud, my whole front side was pure mud and I had a lot on my back and butt....which then got into the Jeep on my cell phone, the steering wheel and into the house

Good job putting that fire out Smokey! Seriously though, that is why we all should be carrying extinguishers. You just never know.

I was stuck with the DT and DL and I wasnt high centered, it was just very slippery mud and there was a ledge on the front and back of me and it was just too slipperly for me to make it up, now if I had a shovel I probably could have got out by myself

What did your Dad say when you got home? LOL At least all is well. It reminded me of the time that the wife and I use to throw our ashes from our wood burning stove in a ravine when we lived in NM. One night we noticed a bright light shining through the window, and we thought it was someone driving a 4-wheeler (with the lights on) on our property, then we realized our ravine was on fire and the fire reflected off the backside which made it look bigger than it really was. Our backyard was the Cibola National Forest, so yeah, we had the same look that you had.

As far as getting stuck, we all know a winch doesn’t work in Kansas because there isn’t any trees. If you’re lucky you might find a rock fence post.

First you go from testing out new jeep mod to burning down the house. Wow, it's like Murphy's law or something happening there. But it could have been worse. That's one more reason to have a gas tank skid plate.

hum.. this story sounds so familiar.. we had bought a CJ-5 that came from a fire department.. and ironically it burnt the same way yours almost did.. stuck in high grass then just burnt down... someone had restored it before we got to it but that was the story and pictures we got with it.
