I used to use NGK V-Groove plugs for my old Mustang. From the information on the LOST site I decided to try Autolite Platinum plugs. When I opened the plug box, there is an alumium o-ring / washer sitting loose in the box. I have never seen one of these before and I am trying to figure out where it goes. If it goes down the threaded end, does the flat side sit on the base of the plug?

TIA.

Are they all like that, with the ring loose? Check a few others and see which side is up on the others. If they're all loose, I think the flat side goes down, against the block, IIRC.

they have been putting the "washers" on for years and years now. I have taken them out before with them installed both ways and the vehicles ran fine but I always put flat side to the plug. They are like a little crush sleeve in a way

Ok Blake, I know you are just kidding. No need to resurrect your flashlight.

Some plug brands come with them already on (NGK's I bought recently) and some like the Autolites have them loose in the box. I have bought them both ways. I usually put the flat side of the washer toward the flat base of the plug. But to tell you the truth I have done it both ways on different vehicles with no problems.. It is not critical and your motor will not implode or anything. But flat side of the washer to flat side of the plug is probably more correct. Snug up the plug + 1/4 turn and they will seal anyway.

Just my 3 cents worth.........now I am broke.

Its called a compression ring, most plugs come with them , just put them on and your done. no need to worry.
