Now that I have my new bumper it brings up a question. I had the bumper made with the holes for fog lights and purchased some PIAA fog lights. My 05 KJ has the small fog lights already. Has anyone hooked them up together to run off the factory switch? If I could splice the new ones into the wiring for the factory ones it would sure make things a lot easier.

Terry,
The nice thing about using the seperate switch is so that you can run the lights whenever you want to. If they are hooked to the factory switch than the are limited to low beam only.

Just a thought.

Main concern would be the load on the circuit - with two sets of lights running it may blow the fuse. A better idea if you want to go that route would be to wire the new ones seperately thru a relay, then run the voltage sense wire from the relay to the power wire on one of the existing fogs. That way they would work together without overloading the system.

some areas also limit how many forward facing lights you have on at any one time , not sure how the bikini state is :?

I wouldn't worry too much about how many lights you have up front...its not like you've got them on while driving at night. Some states require they be covered up...but its one of those things cops don't care for unless they want to pull you over.

I'd say its possible to splice your stock wiring into the new fogs. It'd make for a cleaner interior w/ less switches. On my old grand prix I did this with a few diff fog lights, from 55w to 100w. Never had a problem, but some people may suggest upgrading the harness.

I'll check the size of wiring and the fuse to see if it can take the load. If not, then using the relay sounds good. Thanks for the info!

No problem Terry. That's what I did for my driving lights except that I ran the voltage sense wire to the hi-beam on the headlights so that the Hellas come on with the brights (really gets people's attention 8) ).

I just had another idea. I added a fuse block under the hood. What if I ran the power from it to the new lights and ran the ground to the ground wire for the OEM for lights? The circuit would be completed when the OEM lights came on and I wouldn't have to run wire for a switch and not have to be concerned with a blown fuse.

I personally wouldnt just hook them up to the factory fog lights.

Use a relay.

I run my factory fogs all the time, so are you going to only use these off road then, no other time? Guess I don't understand the reasoning of having them all hooked together, easier yes but the benefits of running one set or two or all would be better I would think

I didn't worry about it until i got pulled over in WV for having too many lights on. That was the first time i'd ever been pulled over (it was earlier this year, and I'm 27). Thankfully just got a warning.

I like to be able to see good. The high beams take care of far away. The low beams suck. The fogs on with my low beams lights up the road real nice in close, just like they should. The second set would do even better than just the OEM fogs at lighting up the road close in. If I need more light far out I can throw on the 4 Hella's on the basket.

One thing that bothers me about running wires to switches INSIDE the cabin in just another place/thing to potentially start a fire inside the dash. The switch for my Hella's only have a ground wire running to it for that reason. So is my inverter. With my fuse box (under the dash) all hot wires go to it and are fused there.

I can see where that might be a problem.

I grew up in WV and had extra lights on the front of my Blazer at the time... got pulled over.. had to take them off and take the vehicle to the state police barracks to prove I had taken them off.

Usually if your from another state they just warn you about it. But I can't say that is alway true.
