Hey Benny, I'm talking about the Pine Barrens in South NJ, I believe that it is close to Monmoth(not spelled right) County, it is also called Wharton State Park. Now don't get me wrong, it pretty far, but we could have one hell of a day out there.

Benny, you've been slacking, since you're on L.I., you need to find places with sand dunes, rocks, etc. We need places to go. Come on bud help us out here!! Stever71

Secondly, we as far as hunting season goes, we need to find a modified tree hugger to do our bidding to have us off roading, but not b&^%h about us using the land. Lastly, our rigs pump out less Co2 than the 5.7 rigs that most big-wigs drive anyway hence Kerry, DA, MA driving his Lin.Navigator from a brief, lol. Will they ever learn paved roads is a clear sign of govt. mis-spending, lol. :twisted:

A Steve I know a place with sand. But keep in mind its not legal out here. It is an old horse track. I will look in to the beach they may bust your hump if your not fishing.

Scarlet......Have you been to the Pine Barrens in NJ?? Do you know anything about the place? Is it open all year? All I know about it is that it is a NJ State Park and you can wheel there. I googled it once and I think it was Wharton State Park or something like that. It is in the vacinity of AC if I remember right. You or anyone elce in Mid-Atlantic are certainly welcome to join us. We are trying to arrainge something. Can we pry you off the beach??

Ok I got the info for driving on the beach. For people out of the Long Island area (that would be you guy) you can get a day pass. for $30. You have to have the following in your car jack, jackboard, shovel, rope chain or snap line, fire extinguisher, spare tire, tire gauge, flashlight, first-aid kit and portable air compressor or tank. And if you want to fish bring a pole. So if any of you wan to do this let me know we can set a date. I will also look in to other place like the post above that we can hit some sand and dunes.

Sorry guys but I can’t get down to the Pine Barrens any time in Dec and most likely not in Jan either. I might be able to go to Twin arches next weekend (12/13) b/c I will be near there at a friends place. Is it safe to go or are people still hunting up there?

In regards to the Pine Barrens it’s open all year. Check the Mid-Atlantic site for this post that will give you some basic directions. Make a left out of that parking lot and then another left at the first dirt road and that will bring you into the trails. Have fun from there…

There are lots of people who wheel there and on all types of rigs so odds are you might bump into someone who could show you around. BeepBeepJeepJeep knows the area well so he might see this and try to meet up with you guys (or post a link in the Mid-Atlantic section where he’s more likely to see it.)

Some of the trails actually show up on my GPS and start out as dirt/sand roads so if you have one at least you won’t get too lost. The trails are mostly sand and dirt but almost every trail has a section that will have a lot of water and mud. A stock KJ can do fine as long as you know your limits. There are almost no rocks to worry about and no real hills either. It’s all state land and as long as you’re not drinking or generally being an idiot the rangers are fine with it.

In regards to the beaches on Long Island, go to the Nassau and Suffolk county parks web site and you can find out how to get 4x4 beach permits. If you’re not a resident they can be as much as $250. I have a 4x4 fishing permit for Breezy Point in Brooklyn, NY that was only $50 (to residents of NYC.) The beach (that you can drive on) is less than a mile but this close to the city that’s the best I’ll get plus the fishing is great. The rangers are pretty strict about making sure you’re actually fishing and not just driving around and relaxing on the beach.

Hey, thanks for all the info, that's great and since you have a GPS, when you have time, can you PM me the coordinates? Now, I would assume that the $250 would be a yearly permit, I don't mean to sound like a moron or anything, but being NYC, I just thought I'd ask. I don't mind blowing 250 if we can go there when we want, heck I'd even buy a fishing pole, lol.

Thanks, that's great, now we have to set a date, I know the Dawg is busy, but maybe he'll see your post and the desire for putting his rig into 4L will make him more available, lol.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I just figured that it would be cool if we hit the beach, granted it might be better during a warmer time, but if we got a yearly permit, then we'd be able to hit the beach anytime during the spring/summer. Agian, thats, Steve
