Hello! So, I bought my 2004 Liberty used this past year and the one thing I really wish it had was cruise control. I have been looking around and keep coming up with the Audiovox add-on. Has anyone tried it? What are your views on aftermarket cruise controls?

Here is the link to it from JCWhitney:

Thanks everyone.

Check to make sure you can add cruise control first. There was a span of a few months in '04 in which Kjs were built without some of the components for cruise control (a servo or something). Unfortunately, mine is like that and I haven't been able to add cruise control (much less get a clear explanation of why I can't). Just a heads up before you spend money on something you can't use.

You can buy the Factory Mopar Cruise Control from here
http://www.jeepsareus.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=JAU&Product_Code=sck&Category_Code=JL

I just bought the kit for my 2005 kj from them, it's the factory kit with the steering wheel controls, and pretty easy to install

Most places didn't carry the 2005 kit anymore is was discontinued by Mopar because they made two different sets for that year, however you may be able to find the 2004 kit from parts dealers, and I believe you can still pick one up from a stealership, I think i have some pages bookmarked I'll post them below so you can shop and compare.... one thing, make sure the P/N will fit your vehicle before you buy anything.

http://www.partsformyjeep.com/MC-HHG-CIE.aspx

If you have the 3.7L engine look and see if these'll work, if have the 2.4L engine you can find those kits everywhere, anyway good luck

How do I find out if mine has the proper components? Im assuming just ask Jeep when I take her in?

tumanator - I really like the look of that one as opposed to the "boxes" i keep finding. Thanks!!!!

Oh i think i see what your asking some vehicles didn't come with the vacuum plug / wiring harness. Most did but i suppose there are those exceptions, yea have a jeep dealership check your VIN number with their parts catalog as Gopher said below. They can also take a quick look under the hood to see if any extra components would be required.

All you need to do is ask a dealership. Give them your VIN and they'll be able to look it up for you. Somewhere online is the time frame in which KJs were built without the right components. Then look on the inside of your door to see if your production date falls somewhere in there. I'll try and find those dates for you.

Hey thanks so much everyone!
Ill go out tomorrow and take a look at the date (im crossin my fingers - i do a 1,000 mile trip from AZ-CA and back about every month and a half and cruise control would save a lot of gas as well as driving fatigue!)

Ill keep ya updated - and if I end up getting one of the kits I will be sure to add a step by step with lots of pictures.

THANKS!!!

Let me know how your install goes, especially if you find a way around the "your Liberty can't be equipped with cruise control" issue. If there is a way around it, I'd love to add it to mine.

May 2004! Aka I CAN GET CRUISE CONTROL WOO!

Now just deciding on which one!
BennyMigs: What type of cruise control did you put on? Was it Mopar? Has your gas mileage improved when you use it?

Thanks so much! Maybe Santa will bring me one! ha ha.
