Ok - it looks like it's time for a new set of tires (235/65/17). The factory gave me some Wangler HP's which have worked fine (53,000 miles). I drive primarily on pavement with little off roading. All suggestion accepted.

Check out tirerack.com. You can search for the tire size you need then look at the ratings given your search.

I do not recommend you buy those goodyears again, they are a death trap.

if you want you can also get 245/65. But anyway go with the firestone destination a/t's I drive a lot on pavement and do a good amount of off roading and the tires are amazing

Based on the majority of your driving...

I agree with the Firestone Destination, but I recommend the LE over the AT. I love my AT's and the LE's on my Escape. If you choose AT's you're likely going to see a slight drop in mileage. The LE's would better fit the majority highway driving.

Either way, both tires cannot be beat for the price point.

I also agree with the Destinations, but I would suggest the ATs, even if you do little to no off-roading.
I lost no mpgs (once corrected for size difference) over the stock Goodyears.

In all fairness, however, I have no experience with the LEs....

I would wreck Kate Hudson.

Just about anything will be better than those HPs. I had them on mine when I bought it and they came off at 23,000 miles 'cause they just don't work around here. About half pavement / half dirt roads, and lots of snow. My requirements are nothing like yours though so I don't have much experience to help you with.

Regarding the LE'S...
My Escape is a work vehicle. It has 256,000 miles on it. I just put the third set of LE'S on at 201,000. This vehicle will run the east coast from Jacksonville, FL to Portland, ME year round. I've never had an issue, even in the snow of the northeast.

The AT's are just as good for the KJ. I upgraded in size for more meat than stock rubber. I lost 1-2 mpg. I'll give that up for safety and reliability.
