Looking for a nice set of offroad wheels.

I am looking into get a set of nice off road wheels to put on my liberty and am kinda confused on what to get as far as brand and size. I have 245/65/17 destination A/T tires and I saw that I could fit 17x7 wheels, then I saw I could fit 17x7-8.5 rims. I am kinda confused??

I don’t want cragar soft 8’s bc I want a chrome/polished set bc of there being so much chrome on my car…unless if they have soft 8’s in chrome, which I cant find….

Anyone have any type of suggestions on other rims that they have/used?

In a 17" rim they are only available in a 8" width though. A 7" is better for that size tire. Go to 8 and you are more likely to rub and possibly pop a bead.

So basically I shouldn't go with an 8" and stick with tryig to fine 7's?

You can run an 8, and some people do. But a 7 is the better choice.

Just look at 5x4.5 with 4-4.5 BS in 7" width or 5-5.5 BS in 8" wide.

well daspes said 7" is a better choice, but ur sayin I could do 5-5.5 BS on 8", would that make any difference or no?

sorry I dont know anything about rims or what sizes or anything

What's wrong with your stock rims? If you like your stock rims, then I would keep them. If you wanted more backspacing, then you could always add spidertrax spacers. Do you have the TPMS?

I do like my rims but I want to have a nicer off road look to it

Ok I hate to say it but I'm kinda a pretty big noob when it comes to this stuff. What are spydertrax? And what do you mean by TPMS--tire pressure monitering system?

Spidertrax spacers are wheel spacers that provide backspacing. You wont need them if you go to an aftermarket rim with the desired backspacing that you need. And yes, TPMS is “Tire Pressure Monitoring System”. If you have the TPMS, then you will need to put sensors in your new wheels if you still want to use the system. If not, then that’s okay also. Just trying to help you make some decisions. :wink:

I know its just semantics, but spacers effectively decrease backspacing.. Not increase it..

Yea I have the TPMS and its so annoying bc ever since I got my new tires it wont shut off and idk how to, the tire pressure that is shown on the screen in my car is the same as if I manually check them. But where could I get new senors?

The big question here is:

Do you want to LOOK like an off-roader, or do you want performance off-road?

If it is the first, get what ever catches your eye and will fit on your existing tires if you want to re-use them. Posuers can be choosers.

If it is the second, get a set at the narrow end of the recommended widths for your tire size to aid in bead retention and rim lip protection.

The reason people use black steel rims is that they are inexpensive, tough, it is possible to repair them with a BFH in a "have to" situation, and they don't look as bad with the lip chewed up, which will happen if you do more than mall-crawl. Few people are spending extra bucks to get flashy rims that will show rock rash to a much worse degree or may break instead of bend. If nothing else, those black steelies can be touched up with paint from any parts store if you feel a pressing need.

Be honest with yourself when you answer the question in the 2nd line and you will be on your way to choosing a rim.

(BTW: most people do not refer to anything with off-road capability as a "car" except maybe the English. And well, they are the English.....

InCommando has a valid point. The Steel rims are pretty cheap, easy to touch up, and off-road worthy.

Yea I want to get steel rims, I dont want like flashy dubs or anything, lol

I do want the look of the off road wheel plus I also want the performance that it will give me when I am off roading.

I want to get black wheels but they just dont match my car
