Since I have this big move coming up, I decided to take my KJ in to have the U joints replaced because I need my weekends to pack. The shop shall remain nameless. Anyway, I get a call from them today to inform me that in their efforts to remove the drive shaft, they managed to break the yolk that goes into the rear diff. Since it's a CRD, they said there were NO local sources for this part so they had to order it from Detroit which will take a few days.

If I had one of those spark-infested engines, they said we would've have the part replaced and my KJ back to me.

They are supposed to find the source of my coolant leak as well.

That's horse s#$t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 8.25 you have is just the exact same as any '06 KJ,gas or diesel, now some parts from a '02-'05 8.25's will not work but the gears did not change, neither did the pinion yoke.

What does Detroit have anything to do with it? I could have gotten you a yoke in less then 1 hour here in CO,then again how the heck do you break one in the first place taking a driveshaft off?

Yea, how do you break the yoke?

They probably slapped an impact on it and went to town.

The Impact is not the problem.

Sometimes morons operating impacts are the problem.

Do not blame the tool.

Course then again, I can't FATHOM any potential way to break the yoke when doing U joints...is it even feasible?

They said they looked all over and couldn't find it. The little explanation I got was "there was some rust and it was a freak accident".

The ironic thing is the squeaking went away days before my appointment but I figured better safe than sorry.

So my Jeep is STILL in the shop waiting on the new yolk. I asked them how exactly did they break the yolk and they showed me the part. What broke is the lip that holds the snap ring in place. He showed me how rusted out it was by breaking off another chunk with his finger nail.
The part was supposed to come today but no sight of it so far.

Part came in today and after replacing it, the same thing happened to the rear yoke.

Was the rear yolkrusted as well? that seems a little rediculous. Sorry to hear about all the delay and bad luck. but Maybe the will break your carrier somehow and replace it with an ARB :D

ok maybe I'm a lil too optimistic.

Rust, yes. The rear was easy to find and they got it replaced. I picked up my KJ after one week last night.

No, I did not get the part, but they did show me the part to explain what happened. I drove through whatever they spray everywhere to remove snow in UT and the black waters of the FL wetlands.
A different tech broke each part and the manager said he's never seen anything like it.
