Some people run a STARTEC wheel, basically same as stock but nicer looking.

I think you can just pull the stocker out and put in a grant adapter (made for a CJ/YJ) and run whatever Grant wheel you want. Not sure if it would work, just what I read on the net from the TJ guys wanting non-airbag steering wheels.

I have thought about that a few times. I am not worried about hitting or being hit...I worry about the airbag deploying, lol. Hence one of the reasons I have thought about it.

Yeah not having a to worry about the airbags going off would be nice,but......................

Check with your insurance,if you happen to get in a accident and someone dies or gets hurt real bad and they found out you removed/disabled the airbags(the passenger side will not work if you remove the drivers side) they can/will deny any coverage. That goes the same way if you get hit and it's not your fault, the other persons insurance can deny you payment. Then there that little thing the insurance gives you,the airbag discount, that can be turned against you and get your butt sued for fruad.

Insurance reasons aside...
taking a airbag equiped steering wheel off has issues. Troy can chime in on this, but i have heard from body shop guys that complete deactiavtion of the KJ's electrical system must be done first. THEN wait i think 30 minutes or so so the capacitors that would supply a charge to fire in the event of an accident that would destroy the electrical system, to discharge. Many people have unhooked the battery and gone to removing the airbag only to get a broken nose or worse, broken neck.

Then removal of the clock spring housing and wiring harness is done.

Question I have is will the KJ's computer freak out with out the airbag there?

I think that's a little over kill. I took mine out before without disconnecting the battery (not recommended) when i replaced my steering wheel (lazy). Yes basically you are handling an explosive but just keep it facing away from you in the event it deploys unexpectedly. I've heard of them going off just from electric static but never seen it happen. Best bet is if you dont know what you are doing refer to the shop manual for the proper procudure to remove one.

Where does one get one of these Startec wheels?
