New KL71's! much happier than I was with the MTR's

245/75-16's... The road noise has all but disappeared completely. And they've performed well in the gravel and hard packed dirt... but no serious off-roading yet... they certainly look the part; definitely aggressive mud tires.

I'm in CA now, and then I'm in FL... I will snap some pics after the 1st, I've been meaning to do it for a while... I was holding out for the the roof rack and winch I have planned. I live in Loudoun not to far from the Airport.

And the wet traction rocks, it has that water shedding pattern (which I doubt does much considering it's a mud tire with big lugs, unless they are almost bald, maybe????). I used to light up the MTR's pretty easy in the wet stuff. The KL71's don't break free at all. But the "V" pattern does make the tires uni-directional which means a spare would be a 50-50 crap shoot if you ever needed it. I just kept my existing MTR as the spare.

When I decided on the KL71's I also thought long and hard about the Hankook RT03... They had some good reviews and were available at a good price point. Tire rack doesn't carry the Hankook's and shipping was $75 more. So the KL71's ended up costing me ~$50 less than the RT03's when everything was said and done.

the Bighorns and the Kumhos are the two i'm really considering...i'm glad to have actually talked to somebody that HAS the Kumhos, since i've never had an opportunity to drive on a set

The KL78s I had wore real good, ran them over 20,000 miles and they still had over half tread on them so I would say the 71s will do just as good, traction even better maybe. Mine are now in New York state making someone else happy :wink:

i can give feedback on the Hankooks

they have been awesome, great wet weather traction, thier open void pattern cleans the mud out well, pretty quiet for a MT as well

what ever happen to the pics? im curious also to see your height and suspension on your CRD and your clevis....

I have not long put them on my beast and very happy with them. They're great in the wet (coming off STT which were deadly towards the end), great on sand, dig like crazy in the mud and kicked butt in the snow plus they just won 4x4 tyre of the year over in the UK. I'm finding them a little noisey but barable. A lot people walk past and just stop to look at the tyres..... They're pretty chunky :twisted:
