The renegade light bar seems to look the most stock on a kj, but how functional is it? I have a limited do finding the bar and installing it will be a bit of work, more so than jsut buying some hella or baja lights and getting a bar fabbed on. Im pretty sold on some hella 500's on my front bumper, but I want some roof lights as well, so what do you guys think?

You have few choices

Renegade light bar (ranging from 100 to 500 bucks)

roof rack with lights mounted to it ( roof rack from 50 to 500 plus lights)

install a bar from one side to the other (10/15 bucks plus your lights)

or just drill through the roof and mount them that way

all depends on what the final look you want, I have seen some cheaper bars made with lights mounted to them and to me it looks just that cheap and like something a kid would make

so no help but thats about your options

As far as functionality goes, It does shine quiet a bit on the windshield and hood but for what tiny bit of off-roading I do, It gets the job done. It has a bit of wind resistance on it when driving at higher rates of speed. but that about obvious tho

I've looked at other options and I know the best lightbar for me is the renagade light bar.

Ive seen a really neat option Im thinking of giving a shot at, where I fab a bar between the brackets on my roof rails going straight across, then mounting lights to that, I think it will work well.

Have you tried using this forum's search function for light bars? There's a lot of different ideas on how to mount them and where.

I used to like the look of the Renegade model light bar but really the lamps are pretty small. I bought a Surco roof basket just to mount four Hella 500 lamps. They're only 55 W each but they sure light up the highway ahead. You can do the same by just mounting lamps to a light bar to the stock roof rack.

Yep, I use the search a lot thanks. Actually, I use the search to research ideas than post questions about them.

Cross bars are my problem, the fact I don't have them.

If you want small and strong do what I did. Get 1"X1" steel tubing and close off the ends.

I’m not sayin’ it’s easy, and I’m not sayin’ it’s cheap, I’m just sayin’ it’s pretty sweet. Simply a nice rack, serious long range lights, and simply the cleanest look I’ve seen. And I admit, I’m copying……………. :D

Costo doesn't sell those racks any more, you can find the exact same rack but at a hight price here.
