So, I decided to do the lift pump mod about 6 months back because I was sick of all the little stuff I had to do all the time to make it run normal, like carrying around an 11mm wrench, or adding a bleeder valve (both of which I did). Ultimately, putting in $150 bucks of my money and about half a day of labor on the weekend means that I have 0 problems with the fuel supply, I don't HAVE to carry all that stuff around, and I don't have to leave my daily driver at a dealer while someone else monkeys with it for a week. That is worth much more to me than the $150 pump from mopar-parts.

Granted, I'm a technical person and that provides some level of confidence for doing projects like this, but lots of folks here have done VERY good writeups on the lift pump options, why it's a good thing, why Chrysler/Jeep didn't do it in the first place, etc. That means that if you can operate a wrench, screwdriver, a pair of pliers, and have some rudimentary soldering ability, then a REAL fuel pump and the end of many fuel problems is only a matter of a half a day of shade-tree work (or snow-bank now, I guess).

With respect to any decent technicians out there, you should stop letting technician clowns work on a simple problem about which the manufacturer doesn't care and to which they don't have an answer. Ultimately, they just won't do it right, they'll take WAY too long, or both. I have a huge amount of respect for a good mechanic that looks at a problems and figured out how to fix it., Frankly, Chrysler/Jeep dealers don't seem to employ mechanics (you know what I'm talking about) and don't let employees who ARE smart use their heads to solve problems.

Dan

Until you replace the fuel filter head and/or install a lift pump, carry a 11mm wrench in the glove box. With the engine off, prime the fuel system with the hand pump on the top of the filter till you feel resistance, and then bleed the air out by opening the nipple with the wrench. Repeat till you get fuel out of the nipple and not air. I had to do this before adding a new lift pump, and so have many here. Dealer never fixed this problem for anyone on this site. People from this site had to fix the problems themselves. Dealer's are worthless, they don't understand customer service, and as long as I can get parts from independent channels-- I will not miss them when they go bankrupt.

When you get the Lift pump installed you will no longer need to use the 11mm wrench to check for air. I just press on the primer and as long as it is firm, there is no air.

I got my Liberty back this morning. I have a new high pressure injection pump, new fuel filter and new fuel filter housing. All new fuel lines. New fuel tank module. I have an newly installed lift pump. All at Dealer's/Jeeps expense. Dealer said $3350.00.

Vehicle runs better than it has in awhile so I think this was an evolving problem.

I think I need to look at getting an extended warranty. Any suggestions?

What is the part number on the lift pump the dealer installed? It should be listed on the repair order.
