Well...got some holiday money here burning a SERIOUS hole in my pocket. I decided come hell or high water my KJ will have dual exhaust. I'm not doing it for performance or sound. I just want dual outlets.

That being said, dual exhaust (read: affordable dual exhaust) is like the holy grail for most KJ owners. I've rarely found a serious discussion about it, and have yet to see a photo of a KJ with a dual exhaust, except the Borla promotional vehicle with all the stickers.

What I want to do is buy a Y-pipe http://tinyurl.com/9ox86y

Then bring my KJ to the local Cole Muffler and tell them to weld it in and bend me up a second pipe exiting out the driver side and see what they say. Yea, I'm keeping the factory muffler. I like it. And I'm cheap.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Could it be I am the pioneer of this particular mod? I'd be honored. Anyway, probably gonna happen early next week so I'll keep you guys posted.

Here's a non promotional vehicle picture of the Borla dual outlet which is not actually a true dual exhaust. A true dual would not give you sufficient exhaust velocity and scavenging which would lower torque at low RPM. I got mine for $400 delivered, but that was 7 years ago. I really love it though. Sounds great and made a performance increase.

Huh...you know I never saw your duals tjkj...of course I've only been around here for a bit over a year, must have been before my time. How did you do yours? Muffler shop job or Borla?

Regarding true duals, yea I don't need to do that. I just want the look (flame away). Thats why I figured I'd add the Y-pipe after the factory muffler and go from there. Anyway thanks for the info so far guys!

If you really wanted dual "outlet" exhaust for the look than do the Borla system. It'll bolt right in and is designed specifically for the KJ

Borla Dual Exhaust from LMP performance. It's pricey but you'll get what you pay for. Also, you can probably find the system from some other e-tailer for less but becareful who you buy from.

I had the Borla system.

I looked fine with OEM bumber but kinda awkward with the RL bumber.I planned on having the tips bent up more to raise them to not look as bad but I crushed the muffler and got rid of the whole setup, one that ends before the rear diff.

Wow...that Borla system is pricey but really nice.

How much would it cost you to get the Y pipe and have the system fabbed? With the difference saved you could put it towards a locker maybe........ Just thinking out loud.

Well for price comparisons, I'm getting dual tails put on my Tahoe for under $150, which includes the Y pipe and aluminized 2 /2" pipe over and out the sides( I pull trailers with animals, can't have then out back). I think he quoted me like 50-60 per chrome 3" extensions, but I already have my own.

The Borla system has a "insert very large number here" warranty,it's made out of T304 stainless steel, hence the cost,it will out last the KJ unless you slam the muffler on a very big rock about 4 times.

That's what I was thinking. I hate to do a half a** job, but I'm having trouble justifying the cost of the Borla...

Went to my usual muffler shop today and was told by the service manager that they couldn't do it. Said there was too much junk in the way and not enough room on Libertys...said he had gotten the request before (I thought I would have been the first).

I know it's BS and it can be done but I didn't feel like arguing. I'll get a second and third opinion from some other exhaust shops I guess...I hate service guys who don't know but think they do. (Don't take offense service guys, I love the guys who DO know what they're talking about).

Still can't fathom dropping $650 on the Borla...maybe I'll have to.

I have a borla on my KJ, I bought it off ebay and it is great. The sound is nice and never had any problems while off roading with it...I do have a couple little dings in it though but *shrug* you have to have some fun. Mine were a lot cheaper than that though...they were around 230 plus 50 for shipping. Granted that was....2002 or 2003, lol. Keep looking around, you should be able to find it somewhere for a good price. I was in the same place as you then and am glad I got the Borla. It is worth it....just like the OME HD!
Oh, I think the only thing I have noticed with my exhaust is that I need to seriously polish the tips as they are blacker than black, lol.

I'm looking, I'm looking. Cheapest I've found is $599 on Wyckoff. Just rediculous for something a competent muffler shop can do with $50 worth of piping and an hour labor. I'm so
