With various cities and counties voters have protested and had laws passed that require the Government balance sheets be posted on web sites.
All of a sudden, there is enough money and those factions who are abusing funds stop.
In my humble opinion ALL Government should be forced to post the balance sheets on a web site.
Political candidates should have to as well :!:

Through out History the greedy are the most corrupt and corruption leads to War.

I find it disgusting that we have to have laws to make our elected and appointed officials honest.

They tried it in Cali, they were actually talking about requiring a gps type unit in all passenger cars. Thankfully it went in the same trashcan as the 5. dollar per pack of smokes tax.

But you never know out here. the left coast is crazy.

I like the idea of a bit of "sunshine" on the budgets, but GOOD LUCK getting any lobbyist-loving politician to go for that in this economy. The first thing they will say is that it would cost too much to show how much it costs.

If you get the gist of the article, the mileage tax won't replace fuel taxes - it will be in ADDITION to fuel taxes.

They mentioned NC, which already has the 5th highest fuel taxes in the country - they're proposing the 1/4 cent/mile tax on top of the fuel taxes they're already getting.

IMHO that's the main reason for the past 35 years we haven't seen any more of a push from the federal and state governments for more fuel efficient vehicles - a populace driving 40 mpg TDI's instead of 15 mpg SUV's means far less money in their coffers.

And I fully agree with the transparency comments - there's no guarantee that the money from this new tax won't be misappropriated for various pet programs, as the money from fuel taxes has in the past.

At least this isn't as ridiculous as the engine displacement tax some have proposed - ridiculous as far as the amounts they want to charge - $8000 yearly tax on a Dodge Ram pickup with a 5.9 L Hemi engine - that would literally put many volunteer fire departments and hundreds of small businesses that do need to use such vehicles out of business.

In my case, just for commuting to work, the NC 1/4 cent tax would mean an additional $300 per year on one vehicle - and that's not counting any driving other than commuting to work. And that's on top of the county property tax and fuel taxes already in place. Might even be more than that, if they adopt the "premium" charge for commuting during what they consider rush hour.

I live in the triangle in NC and i feel like my taxes are high enough. Pretty soon all the carpetbaggers will be going back up north for lower taxes and i will be going with them.

Two very famous ones moved to New York about 8 years ago.
Taxes, corruption, and senseless regulations keep going up until there is a revolution, let us hope we have one at the ballot boxes in a couple years. It is not one or the other party, both need to clean house and become responsible with the tax money they take from us.
Another item we need are Lawyers on the Government parole who know how to read the laws we have on the books and put crooks where they belong, picking up trash on the side of the road and doing other unpaid public service so others will not try ripping us all off.

So much for my rant.
