Just had mine replaced and the shop managed to break both the font and rear yokes while doing it

Well after 7 years mine are still tight and no signs of wear,I check often(at least at every oil change) and I do always carry a spare set of u-joints and yoke straps in my KJ at all times(and all the correct tools to swap them).

I use a balljoint press and my electric impact, makes short work of removing/installing u-joints.Got a cheapy one from Harbor Freight for $30 and works awesome for u-joints.

I actually just replaced mine last Friday. What I chore. With 113k and never been touched, they were reluctant to come out. They looked and felt ok, but upon disassembly, you could see some light signs of wear on the inside. The new u-joints apparently took care of the slight vibration I was having too.

I do not understand what posessed you to replace those. They look perfectly fine to me?

(120k and OE u joints...getting a little vibration under acceleration from an indicated 48-52 mph but nowhere else...perhaps it's time...)

I have the same question. Are you saying you disassembled them every 3k and cleaned/greased ? Wow.

wouldn't hurt to check them , when mine went it just caused a little vibration but the joints appeared tight until I ran down the road and came back and touched the rear one and burnt my hand due to it being so hot!
