I also pointed the folks at SOMS at this discussion thread, and received a response back from none other than the CEO of the company:
Chris -
I read the posts on the diesel Jeep Liberty forums from the link you provided.
Firstly, thanks for your interest in the microGreen Extended Performance Oil Filter. We also appreciate the on-line conversation that the forum has been engaged in.
The forum posts were correct in characterizing our filter as essentially having a by-pass element with the convenience of a spin-on canister. The forum was also correct in understanding the basics of oil degradation. What should be noted is that particulate contamination is an accelerant – the particles consume additives and initiate changes in acidity and viscosity. It is well established that if you keep the oil cleaner, you can significantly slow any other changes to the oil, extending the oil’s useful life.
Our filter has been extensively tested and development has also been supported by a shared research agreement with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. This testing has confirmed the use of the filter with an oil change at up to 30,000 miles. I do want to emphasize how the filter is used. For a vehicle with a standard 3,000 mile oil change, our filter is changed every 6,000 miles, the oil level topped up, and the oil can be used to 24,000. For a vehicles with a standard oil change at 5,000 miles or higher, the filter is changed every 10,000 miles and the oil can be used to 30,000. This does ensure filtration capacity and oil cleanliness.
We hope you do consider using the microGreen filter and to use the coupon code that Jason provided. We do hope that you provide us feedback on how the filter worked for you to decrease costs, increase convenience, and protect the environment.
Kind regards,
